Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Our Help Is in the Name of the Lord
A Song of (A)Ascents. Of David.
124 (B)If it had not been the Lord who was on our side—
(C)let Israel now say—
2 if it had not been the Lord who was on our side
when people rose up against us,
3 then they would have (D)swallowed us up alive,
when their anger was kindled against us;
4 then (E)the flood would have (F)swept us away,
the torrent would have gone (G)over us;
5 then over us would have gone
the raging waters.
6 Blessed be the Lord,
who has not given us
as prey to their teeth!
7 We have escaped like a bird
from (H)the snare of the fowlers;
the snare is broken,
and we have escaped!
8 (I)Our help is in the name of the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.
4 “To you, O (A)men, I call,
and my cry is to (B)the children of man.
5 O (C)simple ones, learn (D)prudence;
O (E)fools, learn sense.
6 Hear, for I will speak (F)noble things,
and from my lips will come (G)what is right,
7 for my (H)mouth will utter truth;
wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
8 All the words of my mouth are righteous;
there is nothing (I)twisted or crooked in them.
9 They are all (J)straight to him who understands,
and right to those who find knowledge.
10 (K)Take my instruction instead of silver,
and knowledge rather than choice gold,
11 (L)for wisdom is better than jewels,
and (M)all that you may desire cannot compare with her.
12 “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,
and I find knowledge and (N)discretion.
13 (O)The fear of the Lord is (P)hatred of evil.
(Q)Pride and arrogance and the way of evil
and (R)perverted speech I hate.
14 I have (S)counsel and (T)sound wisdom;
I have insight; (U)I have strength.
15 By me (V)kings reign,
and rulers decree what is just;
16 by me princes rule,
and nobles, all who govern justly.[a]
17 (W)I love those who love me,
and (X)those who seek me diligently find me.
18 (Y)Riches and honor are with me,
(Z)enduring wealth and (AA)righteousness.
19 My fruit is (AB)better than (AC)gold, even fine gold,
and my yield than (AD)choice silver.
20 I walk in the way of righteousness,
in the paths of justice,
21 granting an inheritance to those who love me,
and filling their treasuries.
15 (A)Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 (B)making the best use of the time, because (C)the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what (D)the will of the Lord is. 18 And (E)do not get drunk with wine, for that is (F)debauchery, but (G)be filled with the Spirit, 19 addressing one another in (H)psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20 (I)giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father (J)in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
