Psalm 8

How Majestic Is Your Name

For the choir director. According to the Gittith. A Psalm of David.

O Yahweh, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth,
Who [a](A)displays Your splendor above the heavens!
(B)From the mouth of infants and nursing babies You have established [b](C)strength
Because of Your adversaries,
To make (D)the enemy and the revengeful cease.

When I (E)see (F)Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The (G)moon and the stars, which You have established;
(H)What is man that You remember him,
And the son of man that You care for him?
Yet You have made him a (I)little lower than the [c]angels,
And (J)You crown him with (K)glory and majesty!
You make him to (L)rule over the works of Your hands;
You have (M)put all things under his feet,
All sheep and oxen,
And also the animals of the field,
The birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea,
Whatever passes through the paths of the seas.

(N)O Yahweh, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth!

Proverbs 4:1-9

A Father’s Wise Instruction

Hear, O sons, the (A)discipline of a father,
And (B)pay attention that you may know understanding,
For I give you [a]sound (C)learning;
(D)Do not forsake my [b]instruction.
When I was a son to my father,
(E)Tender and (F)the only son before my mother,
Then he (G)instructed me and said to me,
“Let your heart (H)hold fast my words;
(I)Keep my commandments and live;
(J)Acquire wisdom! (K)Acquire understanding!
Do not forget and do not turn away from the sayings of my mouth.
Do not forsake her, and she will keep you;
(L)Love her, and she will guard you.
[c](M)The beginning of wisdom is: (N)Acquire wisdom;
And with all your acquiring, acquire understanding.
(O)Prize her, and she will exalt you;
She will honor you if you embrace her.
She will give (P)for your head a garland of grace;
She will present you with a crown of beauty.”

Luke 2:41-52

The Boy Jesus in the Temple

41 And His parents would go to Jerusalem every year at (A)the Feast of the Passover. 42 And when He became twelve years old, they went up there according to the custom of the Feast; 43 and as they were returning, after finishing the (B)days of the Feast, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. But His parents did not know. 44 But supposing Him to be in the caravan, they went a day’s journey, and they began searching for Him among their relatives and acquaintances. 45 When they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem searching for Him. 46 And it happened that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And all who heard Him (C)were astounded at His understanding and His answers. 48 When they saw Him, they were astonished, and (D)His mother said to Him, “Child, why have You treated us this way? Behold, (E)Your father and I [a]have been anxiously searching for You.” 49 And He said to them, “Why is it that you were searching for Me? Did you not know that (F)I had to be in My Father’s [b]house?” 50 But (G)they did not understand the statement which He had spoken to them. 51 And He went down with them and came to (H)Nazareth, and He continued in subjection to them, and (I)His mother (J)was treasuring all these [c]things in her heart.

52 And Jesus was advancing in wisdom and [d]stature, and in (K)favor with God and men.
