Psalm 8

The Lord’s Greatness

For the director of music. On the gittith [C perhaps a musical term or instrument]. A psalm of David.

Lord our Lord,
·Your name is the most wonderful name [L How majestic is your name] in all the earth [Ex. 3:14–15]!
·It brings you praise [L You have set your splendor/glory] in heaven above [Rom. 1:20].
·You have taught children and babies
to sing praises to you [L Out of the mouth of babies and infants you have established/founded strength]
    because of your enemies.
And so you silence your enemies
and those who try to get ·even [revenge].

I look at your heavens,
·which you made with [L the work of] your fingers.
I see the moon and stars,
    which you ·created [L established; Gen. 1:17–18].
·But why are people even important to you [L What are people that you remember them]?
Why do you take care of ·human beings [L the son of man]?
You made them a little lower than ·the angels [or God]
and crowned them with glory and honor [Gen. 1:26–27].
You ·put them in charge of [give them rule over] ·everything you made [L the work of your hands].
You put all things under their ·control [L feet; Heb. 2:6–8]:
all the sheep, the cattle,
and the ·wild animals [L beasts of the field],
the birds in the ·sky [heavens],
    the fish in the sea,
and everything that ·lives under water [L passes/travels on the paths of the sea; Gen. 1:28; 9:1–3].

Lord our Lord,
·your name is the most wonderful [L how majestic is your] name in all the earth!

Proverbs 3:13-18

13 ·Happy [Blessed] is the person who finds wisdom,
the one who ·gets [gains] understanding.
14 ·Wisdom [L Her profit] is worth more than silver;
·it brings more profit [L her yield more] than gold.
15 Wisdom is more precious than ·rubies [or pearls];
nothing you could want is equal to it.
16 ·With [In] her right hand ·wisdom offers you a long life [L are length of days],
and ·with [in] her left hand ·she gives you [are] riches and honor.
17 ·Wisdom will make your life [L Her paths are] pleasant
and ·will bring you [L her trails are] peace.
18 As a tree produces fruit, wisdom gives life to those who use it,
and everyone who uses it will be happy.

Ephesians 1:17-19

17 asking the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, to give you ·a spirit of wisdom [or spiritual wisdom; or the Spirit of wisdom] and revelation so that you will know him better. 18 I pray also that ·you will have greater understanding in your heart [L the eyes of your heart may be enlightened] so you will ·know [comprehend] the hope to which he has called us and that you will know ·how rich and glorious are the blessings God has promised [the riches of his glorious inheritance for; or the glorious wealth of an inheritance that God possesses in] ·his holy people [T the saints]. 19 And you will know that God’s power is ·very [exceedingly; overwhelmingly] great for us who believe. That power ·is the same as [or was demonstrated in] the great strength
