Psalm 48

48 1 A notable deliverance of Jerusalem from the hands of many kings is mentioned, for the which thanks are given to God, and the state of that city is praised, that hath God so presently at all times ready to defend them.  This Psalm seemeth to be made in the time of Ahaz, Jehoshaphat, Asa, or Hezekiah: for in their times chiefly was the city by foreign princes assaulted.

[a]A song or Psalm committed to the sons of Korah.

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the [b]City of our God, even upon his holy Mountain.

Mount Zion, lying Northward, is fair in situation: it is the [c]joy of the whole earth, and the City of the great king.

In the palaces thereof God is known for a [d]refuge.

For lo, the kings were [e]gathered, and went together.

When they saw [f]it, they marveled: they were astonied, and suddenly driven back.

Fear came there upon them, and sorrow, as upon a woman in travail.

As with an East wind thou breakest the ships [g]of Tarshish, so were they destroyed.

As we have [h]heard, so have we seen in the City of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it forever. Selah.

We wait for thy loving-kindness, O God, in the midst of thy Temple.

10 O God, according to thy Name, so is thy praise unto the [i]world’s end: thy right hand is full of righteousness.

11 Let [j]mount Zion rejoice, and the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments.

12 [k]Compass about Zion, and go round about it, and tell the towers thereof.

13 Mark well the wall thereof: behold her towers, that ye may tell your posterity.

14 For this God is our God forever and ever, he shall be our guide unto the death.

Joel 2:18-29

18 Then will the Lord be [a]jealous over his land, and spare his people.

19 Yea, the Lord will answer and say unto his people, Behold, I will send you corn and wine, and oil, and you shall be satisfied therewith: and I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen.

20 But I will remove far off from you the [b]Northern army, and I will drive him into a land, barren and desolate with his face toward the [c]East sea, and his end to the utmost sea, and his stink shall come up, and his corruption shall ascend, because he hath exalted himself to do this.

21 Fear not, O land, but be glad, and rejoice: for the Lord will do great things.

22 Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field: for the pastures of the wilderness are green for the tree beareth her fruit: the fig tree and the vine do give their force.

23 Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God, for he hath given you the rain of [d]righteousness, (A)and he will cause to come down for you the rain, even the first rain, and the latter rain in the first month.

24 And the barns shall be full of wheat, and the presses shall abound with wine and oil.

25 And I will render you the years that the grasshopper hath eaten, the cankerworm and the caterpillar and the palmerworm, my great host which I sent among you.

26 So you shall eat and be satisfied and praise the name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt marvelously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.

27 Ye shall also know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God and none other, and my people shall never be ashamed.

28 And afterward will I pour [e]out my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy: your old men shall dream [f]dreams, and your young men shall see visions.

29 And also upon the servants, and upon the maids in those days will I pour my Spirit.

1 Corinthians 2:1-11

1 He setteth down a platform of his preaching, 4 which was base in respect of man’s wisdom, 7, 13 but noble in respect of the spiritual power and efficacy. 14 And so concludeth that flesh and blood cannot rightly judge thereof.

And [a]I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with (A)excellency of words, or of wisdom, showing unto you the [b]testimony of God.

For I [c]esteemed not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

(B)And I was among you in [d]weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.

Neither stood my word, and my preaching in the (C)enticing speech of man’s wisdom, [e]but in plain [f]evidence of the Spirit and of power.

[g]That your faith should not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

[h]And we speak wisdom among them that are [i]perfect: not the wisdom of this world, neither of the [j]princes of this world, which come to nought.

[k]But we speak the wisdom of God in a [l]mystery, even the hid wisdom, [m]which God had determined before the world, unto our glory.

[n]Which none of the princes of this world hath known: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the [o]Lord of glory.

[p]But as it is written, (D)The things which eye hath not seen, neither ear hath heard, neither came into [q]man’s heart, are, which God hath prepared for them that love him.

10 [r]But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the spirit [s]searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

11 [t]For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the [u]spirit of a man, which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
