Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
On Pentecost The Spirit Empowers Them To Speak To The Crowd In Their Native Languages
2 And during the day of Pentecost being fulfilled, they were all together at the same place. 2 And suddenly a noise from heaven like of a violent rushing wind took place, and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 And dividing[a] tongues as-if of fire appeared to them. And it sat on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in other tongues[b] as the Spirit was giving[c] the uttering[d] to them. 5 Now there were Jews dwelling in Jerusalem, reverent men from every nation under heaven. 6 And this sound having taken place, the crowd came together and was confounded[e] because they were each one hearing them speaking in his own language! 7 And they were astonished, and were marveling, saying “Behold, are not all these ones speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it we are each one hearing in our own language in which we were born?— 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites; and the ones dwelling-in Mesopotamia, and Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 and Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the regions of Libya toward Cyrene; and the Romans residing here; 11 both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs; we are hearing them speaking the great[f] things of God in our own tongues”. 12 And they were all astonished and greatly-perplexed, saying one to another, “What does this mean?” 13 But others, while scoffing[g], were saying that “They have been filled with sweet-new-wine”.
Peter Declares To The Crowd That This Event Is God Pouring Out His Promised Spirit
14 And Peter, having stood with the eleven, raised his voice and declared[h] to them, “Men, Jews, and all the ones dwelling-in Jerusalem: let this be known to you, and pay-attention-to my words. 15 For these ones are not drunk, as you are assuming[i]. For it is the third[j] hour of the day. 16 But this is the thing having been spoken through the prophet Joel [in Joel 2:28-32]: 17 ‘And it shall be in the last days, God says, that I will pour-out from[k] My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your young men will see visions, and your older men will dream with dreams. 18 And[l] indeed upon My male-slaves and upon My female-slaves I will pour-out from My Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. 19 And I will give wonders in the heaven above, and signs on the earth below— blood, and fire and a vapor of smoke. 20 The sun will be changed into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and glorious[m] day of the Lord comes. 21 And it shall be that everyone who calls-upon the name of the Lord will be saved’.
For Those Being So Led By The Spirit Are The Adopted Children of God
14 For[a] all who are being led[b] by the Spirit of God, these are sons[c] of God. 15 For you did not receive a spirit[d] of slavery again leading-to fear, but you received a Spirit[e] of adoption by Whom we are crying-out “Abba[f]! Father!” 16 The Spirit Himself bears-witness-with our spirit that we are children of God!
This Means We Are Joint-Heirs With Christ, Sharing His Suffering And Glory
17 And if we are children, we are heirs also. We are heirs of God, and fellow-heirs of Christ, since[g] we are suffering-with Him in order that we may also be glorified-with Him.

He Who Has Seen Me Has Seen The Father
8 Philip says to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us”. 9 Jesus says to him, “Am I with you[a] all for so long a time, and you[b] have not known[c] Me, Philip?— the one having seen Me has seen the Father. How is it you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? I am not speaking the words which I am saying to you[d] from Myself, but the Father abiding in Me is doing His works. 11 Be believing Me— that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me. Otherwise, be believing because of the works themselves.
You Will Do Greater Works Than I. The Father Will Send You The Helper
12 “Truly, truly, I say to you— the one believing in Me, that one also will do the works which I am doing. And he will do greater[e] works than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And whatever thing you ask in My name, this I will do, in order that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it. 15 If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. 16 And I will request the Father, and He will give you another Helper[f] to be with[g] you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, Whom the world is not able to receive because it does not see nor know Him. You know Him because He abides with[h] you, and will be in[i] you.
The Holy Spirit Whom The Father Will Send In My Name Will Teach You All Things
25 “I have spoken these things to you while staying[a] with you. 26 But the Helper— the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name— that One will teach you all things, and remind you of everything which I said to you.
I Leave You My Peace. Do Not Be Troubled. I Am Returning To The Father
27 “I leave you peace. I give you My peace. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid[b].
