Psalm 105:1-15

The Lord’s Wonderful Works in Behalf of Israel.

105 Oh (A)give thanks to the Lord, (B)call upon His name;
(C)Make known His deeds among the peoples.
Sing to Him, (D)sing praises to Him;
[a](E)Speak of all His [b]wonders.
[c]Glory in His holy name;
Let the (F)heart of those who seek the Lord be glad.
Seek the Lord and (G)His strength;
(H)Seek His face continually.
Remember His [d](I)wonders which He has done,
His marvels and the (J)judgments [e]uttered by His mouth,
O seed of (K)Abraham, His servant,
O sons of (L)Jacob, His (M)chosen ones!
He is the Lord our God;
His (N)judgments are in all the earth.

He has (O)remembered His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded to a (P)thousand generations,
The (Q)covenant which He made with Abraham,
And His (R)oath to Isaac.
10 Then He (S)confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,
To Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11 Saying, “(T)To you I will give the land of Canaan
As the [f](U)portion of your inheritance,”
12 When they were only a (V)few men in number,
Very few, and (W)strangers in it.
13 And they wandered about from nation to nation,
From one kingdom to another people.
14 He (X)permitted no man to oppress them,
And He (Y)reproved kings for their sakes:
15 (Z)Do not touch My anointed ones,
And do My prophets no harm.”

Psalm 105:16-41

16 And He (A)called for a famine upon the land;
He (B)broke the whole staff of bread.
17 He (C)sent a man before them,
Joseph, who was (D)sold as a slave.
18 They afflicted his (E)feet with fetters,
[a]He himself was laid in irons;
19 Until the time that his (F)word came to pass,
The word of the Lord [b](G)tested him.
20 The (H)king sent and released him,
The ruler of peoples, and set him free.
21 He (I)made him lord of his house
And ruler over all his possessions,
22 To [c]imprison his princes [d](J)at will,
That he might teach his elders wisdom.
23 (K)Israel also came into Egypt;
Thus Jacob (L)sojourned in the land of Ham.
24 And He (M)caused His people to be very fruitful,
And made them stronger than their adversaries.

25 He (N)turned their heart to hate His people,
To (O)deal craftily with His servants.
26 He (P)sent Moses His servant,
And (Q)Aaron, whom He had chosen.
27 They [e](R)performed His wondrous acts among them,
And miracles in the land of Ham.
28 He (S)sent darkness and made it dark;
And they did not (T)rebel against His words.
29 He (U)turned their waters into blood
And caused their fish to die.
30 Their land swarmed with (V)frogs
Even in the (W)chambers of their kings.
31 He spoke, and there came a (X)swarm of flies
And (Y)gnats in all their territory.
32 He [f]gave them (Z)hail for rain,
And flaming fire in their land.
33 He (AA)struck down their vines also and their fig trees,
And shattered the trees of their territory.
34 He spoke, and (AB)locusts came,
And young locusts, even without number,
35 And ate up all vegetation in their land,
And ate up the fruit of their ground.
36 He also (AC)struck down all the firstborn in their land,
The (AD)first fruits of all their vigor.

37 Then He brought them out with (AE)silver and gold,
And among His tribes there was not one who stumbled.
38 Egypt was (AF)glad when they departed,
For the (AG)dread of them had fallen upon them.
39 He spread a (AH)cloud for a [g]covering,
And (AI)fire to illumine by night.
40 [h]They (AJ)asked, and He brought (AK)quail,
And satisfied them with the [i](AL)bread of heaven.
41 He opened the [j]rock and (AM)water flowed out;
[k]It ran in the dry places like a river.

Psalm 105:42

42 For He (A)remembered His holy word
With Abraham His servant;

Numbers 14:10-24

10 (A)But all the congregation said to stone them with stones. Then (B)the glory of the Lord appeared in the tent of meeting to all the sons of Israel.

Moses Pleads for the People

11 (C)The Lord said to Moses, “How long will this people spurn Me? And how long will (D)they not believe in Me, despite all the signs which I have performed in their midst? 12 I will smite them with [a](E)pestilence and dispossess them, and I (F)will make you into a nation greater and mightier than they.”

13 (G)But Moses said to the Lord, “Then the Egyptians will hear of it, for by Your strength You brought up this people from their midst, 14 and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that You, O Lord, are in the midst of this people, for (H)You, O Lord, are seen eye to eye, while Your cloud stands over them; and You go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night. 15 Now if You slay this people as one man, (I)then the nations who have heard of Your fame will [b]say, 16 ‘Because the Lord (J)could not bring this people into the land which He promised them by oath, therefore He slaughtered them in the wilderness.’ 17 But now, I pray, let the power of the Lord be great, just as You have [c]declared, 18 (K)The Lord is slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but (L)He will by no means clear the guilty, (M)visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children [d]to the third and the fourth generations.’ 19 (N)Pardon, I pray, the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of Your lovingkindness, just as You also have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”

The Lord Pardons and Rebukes

20 So the Lord said, “(O)I have pardoned them according to your word; 21 but indeed, (P)as I live, [e](Q)all the earth will be filled with the glory of the Lord. 22 Surely (R)all the men who have seen My glory and My signs which I performed in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet (S)have put Me to the test these ten times and have not listened to My voice, 23 (T)shall by no means see the land which I swore to their fathers, nor shall any of those who spurned Me see it. 24 But My servant Caleb, (U)because he has had a different spirit and has followed Me fully, [f](V)I will bring into the land [g]which he entered, and his [h]descendants shall take possession of it.

1 Corinthians 10:1-13

Avoid Israel’s Mistakes

10 For (A)I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all (B)under the cloud and all (C)passed through the sea; and all were (D)baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea; and all (E)ate the same spiritual food; and all (F)drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was [a]Christ. Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased; for (G)they were laid low in the wilderness.

Now these things happened as (H)examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as (I)they also craved. Do not be (J)idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written, “(K)The people sat down to eat and drink, and stood up to (L)play.” Nor let us act immorally, as (M)some of them [b]did, and (N)twenty-three thousand fell in one day. Nor let us try the Lord, as (O)some of them [c]did, and were destroyed by the serpents. 10 Nor (P)grumble, as some of them [d]did, and (Q)were destroyed by the (R)destroyer. 11 Now these things happened to them as an (S)example, and (T)they were written for our instruction, upon whom (U)the ends of the ages have come. 12 Therefore let him who (V)thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and (W)God is faithful, who will not allow you to be (X)tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
