Psalm 99

Yahweh Is a Holy King

99 Yahweh is king; let the peoples tremble.
He sits enthroned[a] between the cherubim. Let the earth shake.
Yahweh is great in Zion,
and he is exalted over all the peoples.
Let them praise your great and fearful name.
He is holy.
And the strength of the king loves justice.[b]
You have established equity;
you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.
Exalt Yahweh our God,
and worship at his footstool.
He is holy.
Moses and Aaron were among his priests;
Samuel also was among those who called on his name.
They called to Yahweh, and he answered them.
He spoke to them in the pillar of cloud.
They kept his testimonies and the statute he gave to them.
O Yahweh our God, you answered them.
You were a forgiving God to them,
but an avenger of their wrong deeds.
Exalt Yahweh our God,
and worship at his holy mountain,
for Yahweh our God is holy.

Deuteronomy 9:1-5

“Hear, Israel, you are about to cross the Jordan today to go to dispossess nations larger and more numerous than you, great cities fortified with high walls,[a] a great and tall people, the sons of the Anakites, whom you know and of whom you have heard it said, ‘Who could stand before the sons of Anak?’ You should know today[b] that Yahweh your God is the one crossing ahead of you[c] as a devouring fire; he will destroy them, and he will subdue them before you; so you will dispossess them, and you will destroy them quickly, just as[d] Yahweh promised[e] you.

“You shall not say to yourself[f] when Yahweh your God is driving them out[g] before you,[h] saying,[i] ‘Because of my righteousness Yahweh brought me to take possession of this land’; but because of the wickedness of these nations Yahweh is driving them out before you.[j] It is not because of your righteousness and because of the uprightness of your heart that you are coming to take possession of their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations Yahweh your God is driving them before you,[k] and in order to confirm the promise[l] that Yahweh swore to your ancestors,[m] to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

Acts 3:11-16

Peter’s Sermon in Solomon’s Portico

11 And while[a] he was holding fast to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the portico called Solomon’s, utterly astonished. 12 And when he[b] saw it,[c] Peter replied to the people, “Men and Israelites, why are you astonished at this? Or why are you staring at us, as if by our own power or godliness we have made him walk? 13 The God of Abraham and of Isaac[d] and of Jacob,[e] the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you handed over and denied in the presence of Pilate, after[f] he had decided to release him.[g] 14 But you denied the Holy and Righteous One and demanded that a man—a murderer—be granted to you. 15 And you killed the originator of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses! 16 And on the basis of faith in his name, his name has made this man strong, whom you see and know, and the faith that is through him has given him this perfect health in the presence of you all.
