Psalm 37:1-11

A Psalm of David.

Aleph

¶ Do not be angry with the evildoers, neither be thou envious of the workers of iniquity.

For they shall soon be cut down like the grass and wither as the green herb.

Beth

Wait in the LORD and do good; live in the land and uphold the truth.

In the same manner delight thyself in the LORD, and he shall give thee the desires of thy heart.

Gimel

Turn thy way unto the LORD and wait in him, and he shall bring it to pass.

And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light and thy uprightness as the noonday.

Daleth

¶ Be silent before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not be angry with him who prospers in his way, with the man who brings wicked devices to pass.

He

Cease from anger and forsake wrath: let not thy wrath in any wise cause you to become evil.

For evildoers shall be cut off; but those that wait for the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

Vau

10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be; thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

11 But the meek shall inherit the earth and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

Psalm 37:39-40

Tau

39 But the salvation of the righteous is the LORD; he is their strength in the time of trouble.

40 And the LORD helped them and delivers them; he shall deliver them from the wicked and save them because they wait in him.

Genesis 44:1-17

44 ¶ And he commanded the steward of his house, saying, Fill these men’s sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put every man’s money in his sack’s mouth;

and put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack’s mouth of the youngest, with the money of his wheat. And he did according to the word that Joseph had spoken.

As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their asses.

And when they were gone out of the city, and not yet far off, Joseph said unto his steward, Rise up, follow after those men; and when thou dost overtake them, say unto them, Why have ye rewarded evil for good?

Is this not the one in which my lord drinks and in which indeed he divines? Ye have done evil in so doing.

When he overtook them, he spoke unto them these same words.

And they said unto him, Why saith my lord these words? In no wise should thy slaves do according to this thing.

Behold, the money, which we found in our sacks’ mouths, we brought again unto thee out of the land of Canaan; how then should we steal out of thy lord’s house silver or gold?

With whoever of thy slaves it is found, both let him die and we also will be my lord’s bond slaves.

10 And he said, Now also let it be according unto your words; he with whom it is found shall be my slave, and ye shall be blameless.

11 Then they made haste, and each one took his sack down to the ground, and each one opened his sack.

12 And he searched and began at the eldest and finished at the youngest; and the cup was found in Benjamin’s sack.

13 Then they rent their clothes, and each one laded his ass, and they returned to the city.

14 And Judah and his brethren came to Joseph’s house, for he was yet there; and they fell before him on the ground.

15 And Joseph said unto them, What deed is this that ye have done? Know ye not that such a man as I can certainly divine?

16 Then Judah said, What shall we say unto my lord? What shall we speak or how shall we clear ourselves? God has found out the iniquity of thy slaves; behold, we are my lord’s slaves, both we and he also with whom the cup is found.

17 And he said, in no wise should I do so; but the man in whose hand the cup is found, he shall be my slave; and as for you, go up in peace unto your father.

1 John 2:12-17

12 ¶ I write unto you, little children, that your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.

13 I write unto you, fathers, that ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, that ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, that ye have known the Father.

14 I have written unto you, fathers, that ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, that ye are strong and the word of God abides in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

15 Love not the world neither the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the charity of the Father is not in him.

16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

17 And the world passes away and the lust thereof, but he that does the will of God abides for ever.
