Isaiah 62:1-5

Salvation will come to Zion

62 Because I love Zion,
    I will not be quiet.
I cannot stay quiet,
    because Jerusalem is in trouble.
I will continue to speak until she is safe again.
I want her righteousness to shine
    like the sun at dawn.
I want her salvation to be a bright light in the dark.
Jerusalem, the nations will see your righteousness.
All their kings will see how great you are.
People will call you by a new name,
which the Lord himself will give to you.
The Lord your God will hold you in his hand,
and you will bring him honour.
You will be like his beautiful crown!
They will no longer call you by the name ‘Alone’.
They will not call your land ‘Empty place’.
Instead, they will call you ‘The one that makes God happy’.
The name of your land will be ‘Married’.
Yes, the Lord will be very happy with you.
Your land will be his bride.
As a young man marries a pure young woman,
so your sons will marry you, Jerusalem.[a]
Your God will be very happy that you belong to him,
as a bridegroom is happy with his new wife.

Psalm 36:5-10

Lord your faithful love reaches as high as the sky.
People can trust you beyond the clouds.
Your justice is like the strongest mountains.
You always do what is right,
more than the seas are deep.[a]
You take care of people and animals
    and you keep them safe.
God, your faithful love has great value!
You keep all humans safe,
like birds protect their babies under their wings.
You have plenty of food in your house,
to give them all that they need.
You give them water from your river,
that makes them happy when they drink it.
Yes, you are the one who gives us light and life.
10 Continue to love those who serve you as your people.
Let good, honest people receive your justice.

1 Corinthians 12:1-11

Gifts from God's Spirit

12 My Christian friends, I want you to understand clearly about spiritual gifts. You know how you lived before you came to know God. You let idols lead you in many wrong ways. And those idols cannot even speak! This is what I want you to understand now. God's Spirit will never lead anyone to say, ‘God has cursed Jesus.’ And it is only God's Spirit that will lead someone to say, ‘Jesus is Lord.’

The Holy Spirit helps us with different kinds of gifts. But it is the same Spirit who gives them. We serve the Lord in different ways, but all of us serve the same Lord. We do different kinds of work. But it is the same God who helps us all to work in different ways.

God helps each of us with a gift from his Spirit. He does that so that we can help others.

The Spirit helps some people to speak wise messages. Other people can speak messages that help people to know what is true. It is the same Spirit that helps them to do that. The same Spirit causes other people to trust God strongly. He gives to other people gifts to make sick people well. 10 The same Spirit gives other people power to do miracles. Other people can speak messages from God. Some people can recognize whether spirits are good or bad. Some people can speak in different kinds of languages. And other people can explain what those languages mean. 11 There is only one Holy Spirit. The same Spirit helps people to do all these different things. He decides which gifts he will give to each person.

John 2:1-11

The marriage at Cana

Two days after that, there was a marriage party. It was in the town of Cana, in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there. People had asked Jesus and his disciples to come to the party too. When people had drunk all the wine, Jesus' mother said to him, ‘They have no more wine.’ Jesus replied, ‘Woman, why do you tell me this? It is not my time yet.’ His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you to do.’

There were six big pots there. People had used stone to make them. Each pot could contain about 100 litres of water. The water was there so that the Jews could wash themselves in the way that their special rules taught. Jesus said to the servants, ‘Fill the pots with water.’ So they filled the pots to the top. Then he said, ‘Now take some of the water from the pots and give it to the master of the party.’ So they did that. The master of the party tasted the water. The water had now become wine! The master did not know where the wine had come from. But the servants who had given it to him knew about it. Then the master asked the new husband to come to him. 10 The master said to him, ‘Everyone else brings out the best wine first. When people have had plenty to drink, then they give people cheaper wine. But you are different. You have kept the best wine until now.’

11 Jesus did this first miracle at Cana, in Galilee. In this way, Jesus showed how great and powerful he was. And his disciples believed in him.
