Psalm 29

A Psalm by David.

29 Ascribe to Yahweh, you sons of the mighty,
    ascribe to Yahweh glory and strength.
Ascribe to Yahweh the glory due to his name.
    Worship Yahweh in holy array.

Yahweh’s voice is on the waters.
    The God of glory thunders, even Yahweh on many waters.
Yahweh’s voice is powerful.
    Yahweh’s voice is full of majesty.
Yahweh’s voice breaks the cedars.
    Yes, Yahweh breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes them also to skip like a calf;
    Lebanon and Sirion like a young, wild ox.
Yahweh’s voice strikes with flashes of lightning.
    Yahweh’s voice shakes the wilderness.
    Yahweh shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
Yahweh’s voice makes the deer calve,
    and strips the forests bare.
    In his temple everything says, “Glory!”

10 Yahweh sat enthroned at the Flood.
    Yes, Yahweh sits as King forever.
11 Yahweh will give strength to his people.
    Yahweh will bless his people with peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-15

For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven:

a time to be born,
    and a time to die;
a time to plant,
    and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
a time to kill,
    and a time to heal;
a time to break down,
    and a time to build up;
a time to weep,
    and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn,
    and a time to dance;
a time to cast away stones,
    and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace,
    and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek,
    and a time to lose;
a time to keep,
    and a time to cast away;
a time to tear,
    and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence,
    and a time to speak;
a time to love,
    and a time to hate;
a time for war,
    and a time for peace.

What profit has he who works in that in which he labors? 10 I have seen the burden which God has given to the sons of men to be afflicted with. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in their hearts, yet so that man can’t find out the work that God has done from the beginning even to the end. 12 I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice, and to do good as long as they live. 13 Also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy good in all his labor, is the gift of God. 14 I know that whatever God does, it shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it; and God has done it, that men should fear before him. 15 That which is has been long ago, and that which is to be has been long ago. God seeks again that which is passed away.

1 Corinthians 2:11-16

11 For who among men knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so, no one knows the things of God except God’s Spirit. 12 But we received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is from God, that we might know the things that were freely given to us by God. 13 We also speak these things, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things. 14 Now the natural man doesn’t receive the things of God’s Spirit, for they are foolishness to him; and he can’t know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he who is spiritual discerns all things, and he himself is to be judged by no one. 16 “For who has known the mind of the Lord that he should instruct him?” (A) But we have Christ’s mind.
