Psalm 72

Psalm 72

A Psalm of Solomon.

Give the king Your judgments, O God,
    and Your righteousness to the king’s son.
May he judge Your people with righteousness,
    and Your poor with justice.

May the mountains bring well-being to the people,
    and the hills, in righteousness.
May he judge the poor of the people,
    may he save the children of the needy,
    and crush the oppressor.
May they fear You as long as the sun endures,
    and the moon, throughout all generations.
May he descend like rain on the mown grass,
    as showers dripping on the earth.
In his days may the righteous flourish,
    and abundance of peace until the moon is no more.

May he have dominion from sea to sea,
    and from the River to the ends of the earth.
May those who dwell in the wilderness bow before him,
    and his enemies lick the dust.
10 May the kings of Tarshish and of the isles
    bring presents;
the kings of Sheba and Seba offer a gift.
11 May all kings bow down before him;
    may all nations serve him.

12 Indeed, may he deliver the needy when he cries;
    the poor also, and him who has no helper.
13 May he have compassion on the poor and needy,
    and save the lives of the needy.
14 May he redeem their life from deceit and violence;
    and may their blood be precious in his sight.

15 May he live long,
    and may one give him the gold of Sheba;
and pray for him continually;
    and all day long may he be blessed.
16 May there be abundance of grain in the earth
    on the top of the mountains;
may its fruit shake like Lebanon;
    and may those from the city flourish like grass of the earth.
17 May his name endure forever;
    may his name increase as long as the sun.

May men be blessed in him;
    may all nations call him blessed!

18 Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel,
    who alone does wondrous deeds.
19 Blessed be His glorious name forever;
    and may the whole earth be filled with His glory.
Amen, and Amen.

20 The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

Job 42:10-17

10 And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job when he prayed for his friends, and also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. 11 Then all of his brothers, and all his sisters, and all of those who had been of acquaintance before came to Job, and they ate bread with him in his house, and they consoled him and comforted him for all the adversity that the Lord had brought upon him. Every man also gave him a piece of money and an earring of gold.

12 So the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning, for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys. 13 He had also seven sons and three daughters. 14 He called the name of the first Jemimah; and the name of the second Keziah; and the name of the third Keren-Happuch. 15 In all the land, there were no women as beautiful as the daughters of Job, and their father gave them an inheritance along with their brothers.

16 After this, Job lived a hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and their sons to the fourth generation. 17 So Job died, being old and full of days.

Luke 8:16-21

A Light Under a Vessel(A)

16 “No one, when he lights a candle, covers it with a vessel or puts it under a bed, but sets it on a candlestick, that those who enter may see the light. 17 For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and revealed. 18 Take heed therefore how you hear. For whoever has, to him will be given. And whoever has not, from him will be taken even what he thinks he has.”

The Mother and Brothers of Jesus(B)

19 Then His mother and His brothers came to Him, but could not reach Him because of the crowd. 20 Someone told Him, “Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, desiring to see You.”

21 He answered them, “My mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.”
