Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
My Soul Thirsts for You
A Psalm of David. [a]When he was in the wilderness of Judah.
63 O God, (A)You are my God; I shall seek You [b]earnestly;
My soul (B)thirsts for You, my flesh [c]yearns for You,
In a (C)dry and weary land without water.
2 Thus I have (D)beheld You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and Your glory.
3 Because Your (E)lovingkindness is better than life,
My lips will laud You.
4 Thus I will bless You (F)as long as I live;
I will (G)lift up my hands in Your name.
5 My soul is (H)satisfied as with fatness and richness,
And my mouth offers (I)praises with lips of joyful songs.
6 When I remember You (J)on my bed,
I meditate on You in the (K)night watches,
7 For (L)You have been my help,
And in the (M)shadow of Your wings I sing for joy.
8 My soul (N)clings [d]to You;
Your (O)right hand upholds me.
9 But those who (P)seek my [e]life to destroy it,
Will go into the [f](Q)depths of the earth.
10 [g]They will be (R)delivered over to the power of the sword;
They will be a (S)portion for foxes.
11 But the (T)king will be glad in God;
Everyone who (U)swears by Him will boast,
For the (V)mouths of those who speak lies will be closed.
David Anointed King of Judah
2 Now it happened afterwards that (A)David asked of Yahweh, saying, “Shall I go up to one of the cities of Judah?” And Yahweh said to him, “Go up.” So David said, “Where shall I go up?” And He said, “(B)To Hebron.” 2 So David went up there, and (C)his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite. 3 And (D)David brought up his men who were with him, each with his household; and they lived in the cities of Hebron. 4 Then the men of Judah came and there (E)anointed David king over the house of Judah.
And they told David, saying, “It was (F)the men of Jabesh-gilead who buried Saul.” 5 And David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh-gilead, and said to them, “(G)May you be blessed of Yahweh because you have [a]shown this lovingkindness with your lord, with Saul, and have buried him. 6 So now, (H)may Yahweh [b]show lovingkindness and truth to you; and I also will [c]show this goodness to you, because you have done this thing. 7 So now, let your hands be strong and be [d]valiant; for Saul your lord is dead, and also the house of Judah has anointed me king over them.”
25 “These things I have spoken to you in (A)figures of speech; (B)an hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures of speech, but will tell you openly of the Father. 26 (C)On that day (D)you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I will request of the Father on your behalf; 27 for (E)the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and (F)have believed that (G)I came forth from the Father. 28 (H)I came forth from the Father and have come into the world; I am leaving the world again and (I)going to the Father.”
29 His disciples *said, “Behold, now You are speaking openly and are not [a]using (J)a figure of speech. 30 Now we know that You know all things, and have no need for anyone to question You; by this we (K)believe that You (L)came from God.” 31 Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe? 32 Behold, (M)an hour is coming, and has already come, for (N)you to be scattered, each to (O)his own home, and to leave Me alone; and yet (P)I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. 33 These things I have spoken to you, so that (Q)in Me you may have peace. (R)In the world you have tribulation, but (S)take courage; (T)I have overcome the world.”
