Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
The Thirsting Soul Satisfied in God.
A Psalm of David, [a]when he was in the wilderness of Judah.
63 O God, (A)You are my God; I shall seek You [b]earnestly;
My soul (B)thirsts for You, my flesh [c]yearns for You,
In a (C)dry and weary land where there is no water.
2 Thus I have (D)seen You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and Your glory.
3 Because Your (E)lovingkindness is better than life,
My lips will praise You.
4 So I will bless You (F)as long as I live;
I will (G)lift up my hands in Your name.
5 My soul is (H)satisfied as with [d]marrow and fatness,
And my mouth offers (I)praises with joyful lips.
6 When I remember You (J)on my bed,
I meditate on You in the (K)night watches,
7 For (L)You have been my help,
And in the (M)shadow of Your wings I sing for joy.
8 My soul (N)clings [e]to You;
Your (O)right hand upholds me.
9 But those who (P)seek my [f]life to destroy it,
Will go into the [g](Q)depths of the earth.
10 [h]They will be [i](R)delivered over to the power of the sword;
They will be a [j](S)prey for foxes.
11 But the (T)king will rejoice in God;
Everyone who (U)swears by Him will glory,
For the (V)mouths of those who speak lies will be stopped.
55 Now when Saul saw David going out against the Philistine, he said to Abner the commander of the army, “Abner, whose son is (A)this young man?” And Abner said, “By your life, O king, I do not know.” 56 The king said, “You inquire whose son the youth is.” 57 So when David returned from killing the Philistine, Abner took him and (B)brought him before Saul with the Philistine’s head in his hand. 58 Saul said to him, “Whose son are you, young man?” And David answered, “(C)I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.”
Jonathan and David
18 Now it came about when he had finished speaking to Saul, that (D)the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and (E)Jonathan loved him as himself. 2 Saul took him that day and (F)did not let him return to his father’s house. 3 Then (G)Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself. 4 (H)Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David, with his armor, including his sword and his bow and his belt. 5 So David went out wherever Saul sent him, and [a]prospered; and Saul set him over the men of war. And it was pleasing in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.
The Seventh Trumpet—Christ’s Reign Foreseen
15 Then the (A)seventh angel sounded; and there were (B)loud voices in heaven, saying,
“(C)The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of (D)His [a]Christ; and (E)He will reign forever and ever.” 16 And the twenty-four elders, who (F)sit on their thrones before God, (G)fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying,
“We give You thanks, (H)O Lord God, the Almighty, who are and who were, because You have taken Your great power and have begun to (I)reign. 18 And (J)the nations were enraged, and (K)Your wrath came, and (L)the time came for the dead to be judged, and the time to [b]reward Your (M)bond-servants the prophets and the [c]saints and those who fear Your name, (N)the small and the great, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.”
19 And (O)the [d]temple of God which is in heaven was opened; and (P)the ark of His covenant appeared in His [e]temple, and there were flashes of (Q)lightning and sounds and peals of thunder and an earthquake and a (R)great [f]hailstorm.
