Psalm 3

Magen David

Psalm 3

A Psalm of David, when he fled from his son Absalom.
Adonai, how many are my foes!
Many are rising up against me!
Many are saying to my soul:
“There is no deliverance for him in God.”
    Selah
But You, Adonai, are a shield around me,
my glory and the lifter of my head.
I cry out to Adonai with my voice,
and He answers me from His holy mountain.
    Selah
I lie down and sleep.
I awake—for Adonai sustains me.
I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people all around
who have taken their stand against me.
Arise, Adonai! Deliver me, my God!
For you strike all my enemies on the cheek.
You shatter the teeth of the wicked.
Deliverance belongs to Adonai.[a]
Let Your blessing be on Your people.
    Selah

1 Samuel 3:19-4:2

19 So Samuel grew up and Adonai was with him, and let none of his words fall to the ground. 20 Then all Israel from Dan to Beersheba knew that Samuel was entrusted as a prophet of Adonai. 21 Adonai started to appear once more in Shiloh, for Adonai revealed Himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of Adonai.

Defeat and Loss of the Ark

So it was that the word of Samuel went forth to all Israel. Now Israel went out against the Philistines in battle. They camped at Eben-ezer while the Philistines camped in Aphek. The Philistines drew up in battle array to meet Israel, and when the battle was fought, Israel was defeated before the Philistines, who killed 4,000 men on the battlefield.

Hebrews 10:26-31

26 For if we keep on sinning willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but only a terrifying expectation of judgment and a fury of fire about to devour the enemies of God. [a] 28 Anyone who rejected the Torah of Moses dies without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses. [b] 29 How much more severe do you think the punishment will be for the one who has trampled Ben-Elohim underfoot, and has regarded as unholy the blood of the covenant by which he was made holy, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know the One who said, “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay,” and again, “Adonai will judge His people.” [c] 31 It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
