9 I will sing a new song unto thee, O God:
Upon a psaltery of ten strings will I sing praises unto thee.
10 Thou art he that giveth salvation unto kings;
Who rescueth David his servant from the hurtful sword.
11 Rescue me, and deliver me out of the hand of aliens,
Whose mouth speaketh deceit,
And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.
12 When our sons shall be as plants grown up in their youth,
And our daughters as corner-stones hewn after the fashion of a palace;
13 When our garners are full, affording all manner of store,
And our sheep bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our fields;
14 When our oxen are well laden;
When there is no breaking in, and no [a]going forth,
And no outcry in our streets:
15 Happy is the people that is in such a case;
Yea, happy is the people whose God is Jehovah.
2 I [a]was asleep, but my heart waked:
It is the voice of my beloved that knocketh, saying,
Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my [b]undefiled;
For my head is filled with dew,
My locks with the drops of the night.
3 I have put off my garment; how shall I put it on?
I have washed my feet; how shall I defile them?
4 My beloved put in his hand by the hole of the door,
And my [c]heart was moved for him.
5 I rose up to open to my beloved;
And my hands dropped with myrrh,
And my fingers with liquid myrrh,
Upon the handles of the bolt.
6 I opened to my beloved;
But my beloved had [d]withdrawn himself, and was gone.
My soul [e]had failed me when he spake:
I sought him, but I could not find him;
I called him, but he gave me no answer.
7 The watchmen that go about the city found me,
They smote me, they wounded me;
The keepers of the walls took away my [f]mantle from me.
8 I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
If ye find my beloved,
[g]That ye tell him, that I am sick from love.
9 What is thy beloved more than another beloved,
O thou fairest among women?
What is thy beloved more than another beloved,
That thou dost so adjure us?
10 My beloved is white and ruddy,
[h]The chiefest among ten thousand.
11 His head is as the most fine gold;
His locks are [i]bushy, and black as a raven.
12 His eyes are like doves beside the water-brooks,
Washed with milk, and [j]fitly set.
13 His cheeks are as a bed of [k]spices,
As [l]banks of sweet herbs:
His lips are as lilies, dropping liquid myrrh.
14 His hands are as [m]rings of gold set with [n]beryl:
His body is as [o]ivory work [p]overlaid with sapphires.
15 His legs are as pillars of marble, set upon sockets of fine gold:
His aspect is like Lebanon, excellent as the cedars.
16 His [q]mouth is most sweet;
Yea, he is altogether lovely.
This is my beloved, and this is my friend,
O daughters of Jerusalem.
6 Whither is thy beloved gone,
O thou fairest among women?
Whither hath thy beloved turned him,
That we may seek him with thee?
2 My beloved is gone down to his garden,
To the beds of [r]spices,
To feed in the gardens, and to gather lilies.
3 I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine:
He feedeth his flock among the lilies.
19 For this is [a]acceptable, if for conscience [b]toward God a man endureth griefs, suffering wrongfully. 20 For what glory is it, if, when ye sin, and are buffeted for it, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye shall take it patiently, this is [c]acceptable with God. 21 For hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22 who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23 who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, threatened not; but committed [d]himself to him that judgeth righteously: 24 who his own self [e]bare our sins in his body upon the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might live unto righteousness; by whose [f]stripes ye were healed. 25 For ye were going astray like sheep; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and [g]Bishop of your souls.
