Psalm 45:1-2

Psalm 45

For the Music Director. To the melody of “Lilies.” A Contemplative Maskil of the sons of Korah. A love song.

My heart is overflowing with a good thought;
    I am speaking my works for the king;
    my tongue is the pen of a skilled scribe.

You are fairer than all the sons of men;
    favor is poured on your lips;
    therefore God has blessed you forever.

Psalm 45:6-9

Your throne, O God, is forever and ever;
    the scepter of Your kingdom is an upright scepter.
You love righteousness and hate wickedness;
    therefore God, your God, anointed you
    with the oil of gladness above your companions.
All your garments are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia;
    from the ivory palaces stringed instruments make you glad.
Kings’ daughters are among your honorable women;
    at your right hand stands the queen in gold of Ophir.

Song of Songs 2:1-7

I am the rose of Sharon,
    the lily of the valleys.

The Man

As a lily among thorns,
    so is my love among the maidens.

The Woman

As an apple tree among the trees of the forest,
    so is my beloved among the young men.
In his shadow I sat with great delight,
    and his fruit was sweet to my taste.
He brought me to the banquet house,
    and his banner over me was love.
Sustain me with raisins,
    refresh me with apples;
    for I am faint with love.
His left hand is under my head,
    and his right hand embraces me.
I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
    by the gazelles or the does of the field,
do not stir up or awaken love
    until it pleases.

James 1:9-16

Poverty and Riches

Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted, 10 but the rich in that he is made low, because as the flower of the grass he will pass away. 11 For the sun rises with a burning heat and it withers the grass, and its flowers fall, and its beauty perishes. So will the rich man wither away in his ways.

Trial and Temptation

12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he is tried, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

13 Let no man say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil; neither does He tempt anyone. 14 But each man is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed. 15 Then, when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin; and when sin is finished, it brings forth death.

16 Do not err, my beloved brothers.
