Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
6 (A)Your throne, O God, is forever and ever.
The (B)scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of uprightness;
7 (C)you have loved righteousness and hated wickedness.
Therefore (D)God, your God, has (E)anointed you
with the oil of (F)gladness (G)beyond your companions;
8 your robes are all fragrant with (H)myrrh and aloes and cassia.
From ivory palaces (I)stringed instruments make you glad;
9 daughters of kings are among your ladies of honor;
(J)at your right hand stands the queen in (K)gold of Ophir.
He
2 As a lily among brambles,
so is (B)my love among the young women.
She
3 As an apple tree among the trees of the forest,
so is my (C)beloved among the young men.
With great delight I sat (D)in his shadow,
and his (E)fruit was sweet to my taste.
4 He (F)brought me to the banqueting house,[b]
and his (G)banner over me was love.
5 Sustain me with (H)raisins;
refresh me with apples,
(I)for I am sick with love.
6 His (J)left hand is under my head,
and his right hand (K)embraces me!
7 I (L)adjure you,[c] O (M)daughters of Jerusalem,
by (N)the gazelles or the does of the field,
that you not stir up or awaken love
until it pleases.
9 Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, 10 and (A)the rich in his humiliation, because (B)like a flower of the grass[a] he will pass away. 11 For the sun rises with its scorching heat and (C)withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits.
12 (D)Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive (E)the crown of life, (F)which God has promised to those who love him. 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then desire (G)when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and (H)sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers.
