To the chief Musician. A Psalm of David; when Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had gone in to Bath-sheba.

51 Be gracious unto me, O God, according to thy loving-kindness; according to the abundance of thy tender mercies, blot out my transgressions.

² Wash me fully from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

³ For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is continually before me.

⁴ Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done what is evil in thy sight; that thou mayest be justified when thou speakest, be clear when thou judgest.

⁵ Behold, in iniquity was I brought forth, and in sin did my mother conceive me.

⁶ Behold, thou wilt have truth in the inward parts; and in the hidden [part] thou wilt make me to know wisdom.

⁷ Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

⁸ Make me to hear gladness and joy; [that] the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.

⁹ Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.

¹⁰ Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

¹¹ Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not the spirit of thy holiness from me.

¹² Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, and let a willing spirit sustain me.

¹⁹ And it came to pass, when he came near the camp, and saw the calf and the dancing, that Moses' anger burned, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and shattered them beneath the mountain.

²⁰ And he took the calf that they had made, and burned [it] with fire, and ground it to powder, and strewed [it] on the water, and made the children of Israel drink [it].

²¹ And Moses said to Aaron, What has this people done to thee, that thou hast brought so great a sin on them?

²² And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord burn! thou knowest the people, that they are [set] on mischief.

²³ And they said to me, Make us a god, who will go before us; for this Moses, the man that has brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what is become of him!

²⁴ And I said to them, Who has gold? They broke [it] off, and gave [it] me, and I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.

²⁵ And Moses saw the people how they were stripped; for Aaron had stripped them to [their] shame before their adversaries.

²⁶ And Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, He that is for Jehovah, [let him come] to me. And all the sons of Levi gathered to him.

¹⁷ But [in] prescribing [to you on] this [which I now enter on], I do not praise, [namely,] that ye come together, not for the better, but for the worse.

¹⁸ For first, when ye come together in assembly, I hear there exist divisions among you, and I partly give credit [to it].

¹⁹ For there must also be sects among you, that the approved may become manifest among you.

²⁰ When ye come therefore together into one place, it is not to eat [the] Lord's supper.

²¹ For each one in eating takes his *own* supper before [others], and one is hungry and another drinks to excess.

²² Have ye not then houses for eating and drinking? or do ye despise the assembly of God, and put to shame them who have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you? In this [point] I do not praise.
