Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
20 I have (A)found David My [a]servant;
With My holy (B)oil I have anointed him,
21 With whom (C)My hand will be established;
My arm also will (D)strengthen him.
22 The enemy will not [b]deceive him,
Nor the [c](E)son of unrighteousness afflict him.
23 But I shall (F)crush his adversaries before him,
And strike those who hate him.
24 My (G)faithfulness and My lovingkindness will be with him,
And in My name his (H)horn will be exalted.
25 I shall also set his hand (I)on the sea
And his right hand on the rivers.
26 He will call to Me, ‘You are (J)my Father,
My God, and the (K)rock of my salvation.’
27 I also shall make him My (L)firstborn,
The (M)highest of the kings of the earth.
28 My (N)lovingkindness I will keep for him forever,
And My (O)covenant shall be confirmed to him.
29 So I will set up his (P)seed to endure forever
And his (Q)throne (R)as the days of heaven.
30 “If his sons (S)forsake My law
And do not walk in My judgments,
31 If they profane My statutes
And do not keep My commandments,
32 Then I will punish their transgression with the (T)rod
And their iniquity with striking.
33 But I will not break off (U)My lovingkindness from him,
Nor deal falsely in My faithfulness.
34 My (V)covenant I will not profane,
Nor will I (W)alter what comes forth from My lips.
35 [d]Once I have (X)sworn by My holiness;
I will not lie to David.
36 His (Y)seed shall endure forever
And his (Z)throne (AA)as the sun before Me.
37 It shall be established forever (AB)like the moon,
And the (AC)witness in the sky is faithful.” [e]Selah.
15 Then three of the thirty chief men went down to the rock to David, to the cave of Adullam, while (A)the camp of the Philistines was camping in the valley of Rephaim. 16 And David was then in the fortress, while (B)the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem. 17 Then David had a craving and said, “Oh that someone would give me water to drink from the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!” 18 So the three broke through the camp of the Philistines and drew water from the well of Bethlehem which was by the gate, and carried it and brought it to David. Nevertheless, David was not willing to drink it, but poured it out to Yahweh; 19 and he said, “Be it far from me before my God that I should do this. Shall I drink the blood of these men who went [a]at the risk of their lives? For at the risk of their lives they brought it.” Therefore he was not willing to drink it. These things the three mighty men did.
The Firstborn of All Creation
15 [a]Who is the (A)image of the (B)invisible God, the (C)firstborn of all creation.
16 For [b](D)in Him all things were created, (E)both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether (F)thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—(G)all things have been created through Him and for Him.
17 And He [c](H)is before all things,
And in Him all things [d]hold together.
18 And He is the (I)head of (J)the body, the church;
Who is (K)the beginning, (L)the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.
19 For in Him [e]all (M)the fullness of God (N)was pleased to dwell,
20 And through Him to (O)reconcile all things to Himself, having made (P)peace through (Q)the blood of His cross—through Him—(R)whether things on earth or things in [f]heaven.
21 And although you were (S)formerly alienated and enemies in mind and in evil deeds, 22 but now He (T)reconciled you in the (U)body of His flesh through death, in order to (V)present you before Him (W)holy and blameless and beyond reproach— 23 if indeed you continue in [g]the faith firmly (X)grounded and steadfast, and not moved away from the (Y)hope of the gospel, which you have heard, which was proclaimed (Z)in all creation under heaven, (AA)and of which I, Paul, [h]was made a [i](AB)minister.
