Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
24 Your procession is[a] seen, O God,
the procession of my God, my King, into the sanctuary—
25 (A)the singers in front, (B)the musicians last,
between them (C)virgins playing tambourines:
26 (D)“Bless God in the great congregation,
the Lord, O you[b] who are of (E)Israel's fountain!”
27 There is (F)Benjamin, the least of them, in the lead,
the princes of Judah in their throng,
the princes of (G)Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali.
28 (H)Summon your power, O God,[c]
the power, O God, by which you have worked for us.
29 Because of your temple at Jerusalem
kings shall (I)bear gifts to you.
30 Rebuke (J)the beasts that dwell among the reeds,
the herd of (K)bulls with the calves of the peoples.
(L)Trample underfoot those who lust after tribute;
scatter the peoples who delight in war.[d]
31 Nobles shall come from (M)Egypt;
(N)Cush shall hasten to (O)stretch out her hands to God.
32 (P)O kingdoms of the earth, sing to God;
sing praises to the Lord, Selah
33 to him (Q)who rides in (R)the heavens, the ancient heavens;
behold, he (S)sends out his voice, his mighty voice.
34 (T)Ascribe power to God,
whose majesty is over Israel,
and whose (U)power is in (V)the skies.
35 (W)Awesome is God from his[e] (X)sanctuary;
the God of Israel—he is the one who gives (Y)power and strength to his people.
Blessed be God!
6 And when they came to the threshing floor of (A)Nacon, Uzzah (B)put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. 7 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah, and (C)God struck him down there because of his error, and he died there beside the ark of God. 8 And David was angry because the Lord had broken out against Uzzah. And that place is called Perez-uzzah[a] to this day. 9 And David was afraid of the Lord that day, and he said, “How can the ark of the Lord come to me?” 10 So David was not willing to take the ark of the Lord into the city of David. But David took it aside (D)to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. 11 And the ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite three months, (E)and the Lord blessed Obed-edom and all his household.
12 And it was told King David, “The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” (F)So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom (G)to the city of David with rejoicing.
Paul Arrested in the Temple
27 When (A)the seven days were almost completed, (B)the Jews from Asia, (C)seeing him in the temple, stirred up the whole crowd and laid hands on him, 28 crying out, “Men of Israel, help! This is the man who (D)is teaching everyone everywhere against the people and (E)the law and (F)this place. Moreover, he even brought Greeks into the temple and (G)has defiled (H)this holy place.” 29 For they had previously seen (I)Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city, and they supposed that Paul had brought him into the temple. 30 Then all the city was stirred up, and the people ran together. They seized Paul and (J)dragged him out of the temple, and at once the gates were shut. 31 (K)And as they were seeking to kill him, word came to the tribune of (L)the cohort that all Jerusalem was in confusion. 32 (M)He at once took soldiers and centurions and ran down to them. And when they saw the tribune and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul. 33 Then the tribune came up and arrested him and ordered him (N)to be bound (O)with two chains. He inquired who he was and what he had done. 34 (P)Some in the crowd were shouting one thing, some another. And as he could not learn the facts because of the uproar, he ordered him to be brought into (Q)the barracks. 35 And when he came to the steps, he was actually carried by the soldiers because of the violence of the crowd, 36 for the mob of the people followed, crying out, (R)“Away with him!”
Paul Speaks to the People
37 As Paul was about to be brought into the barracks, he said to the tribune, “May I say something to you?” And he said, “Do you know Greek? 38 Are you not (S)the Egyptian, then, who recently stirred up a revolt and led the four thousand men of the Assassins out (T)into the wilderness?” 39 Paul replied, (U)“I am a Jew, from Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no obscure city. I beg you, permit me to speak to the people.”
