Psalm 21

Psalm 21

For the Music Director. A Psalm of David.

The king will rejoice in Your strength, O Lord,
    and in Your salvation how greatly will he rejoice!

You have given him his heart’s desire,
    and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah
For You meet him with the blessings of goodness;
    You set a crown of pure gold on his head.
He asked life of You, and You gave it him,
    length of days forever and ever.
His glory is great in Your salvation;
    honor and majesty You set on him.
For You place blessings on him forever;
    You make him rejoice with gladness with Your presence.
For the king trusts in the Lord,
    and by the lovingkindness of the Most High
    he will not be moved.

Your hand will find out all Your enemies;
    Your right hand will find out those who hate You.
You will make them as a fiery oven
    in the time of Your appearance;
the Lord will swallow them up in His wrath,
    and fire will devour them.
10 You will destroy their offspring from the earth,
    and their descendants from among the children of men.
11 For they intended evil against You;
    they devised evil thoughts they will not be able to accomplish.
12 For You will make them turn their back,
    when You aim with Your bowstrings against their face.

13 Be exalted, Lord, by Your strength;
    may we sing and make music to Your might.

2 Samuel 5:17-25

David Defeats the Philistines(A)

17 When the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all of the Philistines went up to search for David, but David heard about this and went down to the stronghold. 18 Now the Philistines had come and were spread out in the Valley of Rephaim. 19 So David asked the Lord, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You give them into my hand?”

The Lord said to David, “Go up, because I will certainly give them into your hand.”

20 So David came to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there. He said, “The Lord has breached my enemies before me like bursting tides.” Therefore, he named that place Baal Perazim. 21 The Philistines abandoned their idols there, and David and his men carried them away.

22 Once again, the Philistines went up and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim. 23 When David inquired of the Lord, He said, “You shall not go up. Circle around behind them and come against them opposite the trees. 24 When you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the trees, pay attention, because at that point the Lord is going before you to defeat the army of the Philistines.” 25 So David did just as the Lord commanded, and he defeated the Philistines from Geba as far as Gezer.

John 7:1-9

The Unbelief of Jesus’ Brothers

After these things Jesus walked in Galilee. He would not walk in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill Him. Now the Jews’ Feast of Tabernacles was at hand. His brothers therefore said to Him, “Depart from here and go into Judea, that Your disciples also may see the works that You do. For no one does anything in secret, while he himself seeks to be known openly. If You do these things, reveal Yourself to the world.” For even His brothers did not believe in Him.

Therefore Jesus told them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always fitting. The world cannot hate you. But it hates Me, because I testify concerning it, that its works are evil. You go up to this feast. I am not going up to this feast yet, because My time has not yet fully come.” Having said these things to them, He remained in Galilee.
