Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Ascribe to the Lord Glory
A Psalm of David.
29 Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings,[a]
(A)ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
worship the Lord in (B)the splendor of holiness.[b]
3 The voice of the Lord is over (C)the waters;
the God of glory (D)thunders,
the Lord, over many waters.
4 The voice of the Lord is (E)powerful;
the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars;
the Lord breaks (F)the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He makes Lebanon to (G)skip like a calf,
and (H)Sirion like a young (I)wild ox.
7 The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire.
8 The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;
the Lord shakes the wilderness of (J)Kadesh.
15 (A)Man is humbled, and each one is brought low,
and the eyes of the haughty[a] are brought low.
16 (B)But the Lord of hosts is exalted[b] in justice,
and the Holy God shows himself holy in righteousness.
17 Then shall the lambs graze (C)as in their pasture,
and (D)nomads shall eat among the ruins of the rich.
18 Woe to those who draw iniquity with (E)cords of falsehood,
who draw sin as with cart ropes,
19 who say: (F)“Let him be quick,
let him speed his work
that we may see it;
let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw near,
and let it come, that we may know it!”
20 Woe to (G)those who call evil good
and good evil,
(H)who put darkness for light
and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet
and sweet for bitter!
21 Woe to those who are (I)wise in their own eyes,
and shrewd in their own sight!
22 Woe to those who are (J)heroes at drinking wine,
and valiant men in mixing strong drink,
23 who (K)acquit the guilty for a bribe,
and deprive the innocent of his right!
The Hatred of the World
18 (A)“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 (B)If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because (C)you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you: (D)‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, (E)they will also persecute you. (F)If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.
