¹⁵ In those days Peter stood up among the disciples (the number of people together was about a hundred and twenty), and said, ¹⁶ “Brothers, this Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit previously spoke by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became the guide to those who seized Jesus. ¹⁷ For he was numbered with us and took part in this ministry.”

²¹ Therefore, of these men who have accompanied us while the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, ²² beginning from the baptism of John until the very day that He was taken up from us, one of these men must become with us a witness of His resurrection.”

²³ So they proposed two, Joseph, called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. ²⁴ Then they prayed, “You, Lord, who knows the hearts of all men, show which of these two You have chosen ²⁵ to take the place in this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, to go to his own place.” ²⁶ Then they cast lots, and the lot fell on Matthias. So he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Psalms 1–41

Psalm 1

⁹ If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God which He has given concerning His Son. ¹⁰ Whoever believes in the Son of God has this witness in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made Him out to be a liar, because he does not believe the testimony that God gave about His Son. ¹¹ And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. ¹² Whoever has the Son has life, and whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Purpose of Writing

¹³ I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

⁶ “I have revealed Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, and You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. ⁷ Now they know that all things You have given Me are from You. ⁸ For I have given them the words which You gave Me. They have received them and certainly know that I came from You, and they have believed that You sent Me. ⁹ I pray for them. I do not pray for the world, but for those whom You have given Me. For they are Yours. ¹⁰ All that are Mine are Yours, and all that are Yours are Mine. And I am glorified in them. ¹¹ I am to be no longer in the world, though these are in the world, for I am coming to You. Holy Father, through Your name keep those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are one. ¹² While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. I have kept those whom You have given Me. And none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

¹³ “But now I am coming to You, and I say these things in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves. ¹⁴ I have given them Your word. And the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. ¹⁵ I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. ¹⁶ They are not of the world even as I am not of the world. ¹⁷ Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. ¹⁸ As You sent Me into the world, so I sent them into the world. ¹⁹ For their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.
