Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
25 From you is my praise.
In the great assembly,
I will pay my vows before those who revere him.
26 The afflicted will eat and will be satisfied.
Those who seek him will praise Yahweh.
May your[a] heart live forever.
27 All the ends of the earth
will remember and turn to Yahweh.
All the families of the nations
will worship before you.
28 Because the kingship belongs to Yahweh,
and he rules over the nations.
29 All the healthy ones[b] of the earth will eat and worship.
Before him all of those descending into the dust will kneel,
even he who cannot keep his soul alive.
30 Descendants[c] will serve him.
Regarding the Lord, it will be told to the next generation.
31 They will come and tell his saving[d] deeds
to a people yet to be born, that he has done it.
11 Look, the days are coming,” declares[a] my Lord Yahweh, “when I will send a famine in the land, not a famine for bread and not a thirst for water, but of hearing[b] the words of Yahweh! 12 And they will wander from sea to sea and from the north and to the east. They will roam about to seek the word of Yahweh, but they will not find it! 13 In that day the beautiful young women and the young men will faint because of thirst.
Simon the Magician
9 Now a certain man named[a] Simon had been in the city practicing magic and astonishing the people of Samaria, saying he was someone great. 10 They were all paying attention to him,[b] from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is the power of God that is called ‘Great.’” 11 And they were paying attention to him because for a long time he had astonished them with his[c] magic. 12 But when they believed Philip as he[d] was proclaiming the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were being baptized. 13 And Simon himself also believed, and after he[e] was baptized he was keeping close company with[f] Philip. And when he[g] saw the signs and great miracles that were taking place, he was astonished.
14 Now when[h] the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, 15 who went down and[i] prayed for them so that they would receive the Holy Spirit. 16 (For he had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized[j] in the name of the Lord Jesus.) 17 Then they placed their[k] hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.
18 Now Simon, when he[l] saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, offered them money, 19 saying, “Give to me also this power, so that whomever I place my[m] hands on may receive the Holy Spirit!” 20 But Peter said to him, “May your silver be destroyed along with you,[n] because you thought you could acquire[o] the gift of God by means of money! 21 You have no[p] part or share in this matter, because your heart is not right before God. 22 Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and ask the Lord if perhaps the intent of your heart may be forgiven you!” 23 For I see you are in a state of bitter envy[q] and bound by unrighteousness.”[r] 24 But Simon answered and[s] said, “You pray to the Lord for me so that nothing of what you have said will come upon me.” 25 So when[t] they had solemnly testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they turned back toward Jerusalem, and were proclaiming the good news to many villages of the Samaritans.
