Version
Psalm 107:1-3

God takes care of his people[a]

107 Thank the Lord because he is good.
His faithful love for his people continues for ever.
Everyone that the Lord has rescued
    should tell others.
Tell them how he has rescued you
    from the enemy's power.
He brought his people from foreign countries.
He brought them together from the east and the west,
from the north, and from the south.[b]

Psalm 107:17-22

17 Some people became fools
    and they turned against God.
They had trouble and pain
    because of their sins.
18 They did not want to eat any food,
    so they nearly died.
19 Because of their trouble,
they called to the Lord for help.
He rescued them from their troubles.
20 He sent his word to them
and he made them well again.
He rescued them from the deep hole of death.
21 So they should thank the Lord
    because of his faithful love.
They should thank him for the great things
    that he does for people.
22 They should offer sacrifices to thank God.
They should sing aloud
to tell about what he has done.

Numbers 20:22-29

Aaron dies

22 All the Israelites went from Kadesh to Hor mountain. 23 When they were there, at the border of Edom's land, the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron. 24 He said, ‘Aaron will soon die. He will not go in to the land that I am giving to the Israelites. That is because you both refused to obey me at Meribah. 25 Moses, you must take Aaron and his son Eleazar to climb up Hor mountain. 26 Take the priest's clothes from Aaron and put them on Eleazar. Aaron will die there.’

27 Moses did what the Lord told him to do. Moses, Aaron and Eleazar climbed up Hor mountain, while the Israelites watched. 28 Moses took the priest's clothes from Aaron and he put them on Eleazar. Then Aaron died there, at the top of the mountain. Moses and Eleazar walked back down the mountain.[a] 29 The Israelites wept for 30 days because Aaron died.

John 3:1-13

Jesus and Nicodemus

There was a Pharisee called Nicodemus. He was one of the Jewish leaders. He came to speak with Jesus at night. He said to Jesus, ‘Teacher, we know that God has sent you to us. We have seen the miracles that you are doing. Nobody could do these things unless God was with him.’ Jesus replied, ‘I tell you this: Unless a person is born from above, they cannot understand the kingdom of God.’ Nicodemus asked, ‘How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot return into his mother's body. He cannot be born a second time.’ Jesus explained, ‘I tell you this: Unless a person is born by water and by God's Spirit, he cannot come into the kingdom of God. People give birth to what is human. But God's Spirit gives birth to spirit. I said to you, “You must be born from above.” What I said should not surprise you. When someone is born by God's Spirit, it is like the wind that blows. The wind blows wherever it chooses to blow. You can hear it. But you do not know where it came from or where it is going.’

Nicodemus asked, ‘How can this happen?’ 10 Jesus replied, ‘You are an important teacher of people in Israel. You ought to understand these things! 11 I tell you this: We speak about things that we know. We tell you about what we have seen. But even then, you people do not believe our message. 12 I have told you about things that happen in this world. And you do not believe me. But now I am telling you about things that happen in heaven. So I do not think that you will ever believe me about those things. 13 The Son of Man came down from heaven. Nobody else has gone up to heaven except him.
