Psalm 46

God Is Our Refuge and Strength

For the choir director. Of the sons of Korah. [a]According to Alamoth. A Song.

46 God is our (A)refuge and strength,
[b]A very (B)present help (C)in [c]trouble.
Therefore we will (D)not fear, though (E)the earth should change
And though (F)the mountains shake into the heart of the [d]sea;
Though its (G)waters roar and foam,
Though the mountains quake at its lofty pride. [e]Selah.

There is a (H)river whose streams make glad the (I)city of God,
The holy (J)dwelling places of the Most High.
God is (K)in the midst of her, she will not be shaken;
God will (L)help her [f]when morning dawns.
The [g]nations (M)roar, the kingdoms shake;
He (N)gives His voice, the earth (O)melts.
Yahweh of hosts (P)is with us;
The God of Jacob is (Q)our stronghold. Selah.

Come, (R)behold the works of Yahweh,
[h]Who has appointed (S)desolations in the earth.
He (T)makes wars to cease to the end of the earth;
He (U)breaks the bow and cuts up the spear;
He (V)burns the chariots with fire.
10 [i]Cease striving and (W)know that I am God;
I will be (X)exalted among the [j]nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 Yahweh of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah.

Genesis 45:25-46:7

25 Then they went up from Egypt, and came to the land of Canaan to their father Jacob. 26 And they told him, saying, “Joseph is still alive, and indeed he is ruler over all the land of Egypt.” But [a]his heart was stunned, for (A)he did not believe them. 27 Yet they told him all the words of Joseph that he had spoken to them, and he saw the (B)wagons that Joseph had sent to carry him. Then the spirit of their father Jacob revived. 28 And Israel said, “It is enough! My son Joseph is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.”

Jacob Moves to Egypt

46 So Israel set out with all that he had and came to (C)Beersheba and offered sacrifices to the (D)God of his father Isaac. (E)And God spoke to Israel [b]in visions of the night and said, “(F)Jacob, Jacob.” And he said, “Here I am.” And He said, “(G)I am God, the God of your father; do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will (H)make you a great nation there. (I)I Myself will go down with you to Egypt, and (J)I Myself will also bring you up again; and (K)Joseph will [c]close your eyes with his hand.”

Then Jacob arose from Beersheba; and the sons of Israel carried their father Jacob and their little ones and their wives in the (L)wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him. And they took their livestock and their possessions, which they had accumulated in the land of Canaan, and they (M)came to Egypt, Jacob and all his seed with him: his sons and his grandsons with him, his daughters and his granddaughters, and all his seed he brought with him to Egypt.

Acts 5:33-42

Gamaliel’s Counsel

33 But when they heard this, they became (A)furious and intended to kill them. 34 But a Pharisee named (B)Gamaliel, a (C)teacher of the Law, respected by all the people, stood up in (D)the Sanhedrin and gave orders to put the men outside for a short time. 35 And he said to them, “Men of Israel, take care what you propose to do with these men. 36 For some time ago Theudas rose up, (E)claiming to be somebody, and a group of about four hundred men joined up with him. [a]But he was killed, and all who [b]were following him were dispersed and came to nothing. 37 After this man, Judas the Galilean rose up in the days of (F)the census and drew away people after him. He too perished, and all those who [c]were following him were scattered. 38 So in the present case, I also say to you, stay away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or [d]action (G)is of men, it will be overthrown; 39 but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them; or you may even be found (H)fighting against God.”

40 So they [e]followed his advice. And after calling the apostles in and (I)beating them, they commanded them not to [f]speak in the name of Jesus, and then released them. 41 So they went on their way from the presence of the (J)Sanhedrin, (K)rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer shame (L)for the Name. 42 (M)And every day, in the temple and [g]from house to house, they did not cease teaching and (N)proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the [h]Christ.
