46 1 A song of triumph or thanksgiving for the deliverance of Jerusalem, after Sennacherib with his army was driven away, or some other like sudden and marvelous deliverance by the mighty hand of God. 8 Whereby the Prophet commending this great benefit, doth exhort the faithful to give themselves wholly into the hand of God, doubting nothing but that under his protection they shall be safe against all the assaults of their enemies, because this is his delight to assuage the rage of the wicked, when they are most busy against the just.
To him that excelleth upon [a]Alamoth, a song committed to the sons of Korah.
1 God is our [b]hope and strength, and help in [c]troubles, ready to be found.
2 Therefore will not we [d]fear, though the earth be moved, and though the mountains fall into the midst of the sea,
3 Though the waters thereof [e]rage and be troubled, and the mountains shake at the surges of the same. Selah.
4 Yet there is a [f]River, whose stream shall make glad the City of God: even the Sanctuary of the Tabernacles of the most High.
5 God is in the midst of it: therefore shall it not be moved: God shall help it [g]very early.
6 When the nations raged, and the kingdoms were moved, God [h]thundered, and the earth melted.
7 The Lord of hosts is [i]with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
8 Come and behold the works of the Lord, [j]what desolations he hath made in the earth.
9 He maketh wars to cease unto the ends of the world, he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear, and burneth the chariots with fire.
10 Be [k]still and know that I am God, I will be exalted among the heathen, and I will be exalted in the earth.
11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
25 Then they went up from Egypt, and came unto the land of Canaan, unto Jacob their father,
26 And told him, saying, Joseph is yet alive, and he also is governor over all the land of Egypt, and Jacob’s heart [a]failed: for he believed them not.
27 And they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said unto them: but when he saw the chariots, which Joseph had sent to carry him, then the spirit of Jacob their father revived.
28 And Israel said, I have enough: Joseph my son is yet alive: I will go and see him yet I die.
46 2 God assureth Jacob of his journey into Egypt. 27 The number of his family when he went into Egypt. 29 Joseph meeteth his father. 34 He teacheth his brethren what to answer to Pharaoh.
1 Then Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and [b]offered sacrifice unto the God of his father Isaac.
2 And God spake unto Israel in a vision by night, saying, Jacob, Jacob. Who answered, I am here.
3 Then he said, I am God, the God of thy father, fear not to go down into Egypt: for I will there make of thee a great nation.
4 I will [c]go down with thee into Egypt, and I will also [d]bring thee up again, and Joseph shall [e]put his hand upon thine eyes.
5 Then Jacob rose up from Beersheba: and the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, and their children, and their wives in the chariots, which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.
6 And they took their cattle, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt, both (A)Jacob and all his seed with him.
7 His sons and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters, and his sons’ daughters, and all his seed brought he with him into Egypt.
33 Now when they heard it, they [a]brast for anger, and consulted to slay them.
34 [b]Then stood there up in the Council a certain Pharisee named Gamaliel, a doctor of the Law, honored of all the people, and commanded to put the Apostles forth a little space,
35 And said unto them, Men of Israel, take heed to yourselves, what ye intend to do touching these men.
36 [c]For before these times, rose up Theudas [d]boasting himself, to whom resorted a number of men, about a four hundred, who was slain: and they all which obeyed him were scattered, and brought to naught.
37 After this man, arose up Judas of Galilee, in the days of the tribute, and drew away much people after him: he also perished, and all that obeyed him, were scattered abroad.
38 And now I say unto you, [e]Refrain yourselves from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel, or this work be of [f]men, it will come to naught:
39 But if it be of God, ye cannot destroy it, lest ye be found even fighters against God.
40 And to him they agreed, and called the Apostles: and when they had beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the Name of Jesus, and let them go.
41 [g]So they departed from the Council, rejoicing, that they were counted worthy to suffer rebuke for his Name.
42 And daily in the [h]Temple, and from house to house they ceased not to teach, and preach Jesus Christ.
