Psalm 139:1-6

Psalm 139

For the Music Director. A Psalm of David.

O Lord, You have searched me
    and known me.
You know when I sit down and when I get up;
    You understand my thought from far off.
You search my path and my lying down
    and are aware of all my ways.
For there is not a word on my tongue,
    but behold, O Lord, You know it fully.

You put Yourself behind and before me,
    and keep Your hand on me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
    it is lofty, and I cannot fathom it.

Psalm 139:13-18

13 You brought my inner parts into being;
    You wove me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise you, for You made me with fear and wonder;
    marvelous are Your works,
    and You know me completely.
15 My frame was not hidden from You
    when I was made in secret,
and intricately put together in the lowest parts of the earth.
16     Your eyes saw me unformed,
yet in Your book
    all my days were written,
    before any of them came into being.
17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!
    How great is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them,
    they are more in number than the sand;
when I awake,
    I am still with You.

Judges 2:16-23

16 Then the Lord raised up judges who delivered them from the hand of those who plundered them. 17 Yet they would not listen to their judges, for they prostituted themselves to other gods and worshipped them. They quickly turned aside from the path their fathers had walked, who had obeyed the commandments of the Lord. They did not do as their fathers had done. 18 When the Lord raised up judges for them, the Lord was with the judge and delivered them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for their groaning before their oppressors and tormentors grieved the Lord. 19 When the judge died, the people turned back and acted more wickedly than their fathers, pursuing other gods to serve and worship them. They would not give up their practices and obstinate ways.

20 The anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and He said, “Because this nation has violated My covenant that I commanded their fathers and has not heeded My voice, 21 I will no longer drive out from before them any of the nations that Joshua left when he died, 22 so that through them I may test Israel and see whether or not they will keep the ways of the Lord, to walk in them as their fathers did.” 23 So the Lord left those nations, not hurrying to drive them out; and He did not deliver them into the hand of Joshua.

Acts 13:16-25

16 Then Paul stood up, and motioning with his hand said: “Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen. 17 The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they lived as foreigners in the land of Egypt, and with great power He led them out of it. 18 For about forty years He endured their conduct in the desert. 19 When He had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He gave them their land as an inheritance by lot.

20 “After about four hundred and fifty years, God gave them judges until Samuel the prophet. 21 Then they requested a king. And God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. 22 When He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, of whom He testified, saying, ‘I have found David[a] the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will fulfill My entire will.’[b]

23 “From this man’s descendants God has raised a Savior for Israel, Jesus, according to His promise. 24 Before His coming John had preached a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. 25 As John was fulfilling his course, he said, ‘Who do you think I am? I am not He. But look! He is coming after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’[c]
