Psalm 139:1-6

Psalm 139

For the Music Director. A Psalm of David.

O Lord, You have searched me
    and known me.
You know when I sit down and when I get up;
    You understand my thought from far off.
You search my path and my lying down
    and are aware of all my ways.
For there is not a word on my tongue,
    but behold, O Lord, You know it fully.

You put Yourself behind and before me,
    and keep Your hand on me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
    it is lofty, and I cannot fathom it.

Psalm 139:13-18

13 You brought my inner parts into being;
    You wove me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise you, for You made me with fear and wonder;
    marvelous are Your works,
    and You know me completely.
15 My frame was not hidden from You
    when I was made in secret,
and intricately put together in the lowest parts of the earth.
16     Your eyes saw me unformed,
yet in Your book
    all my days were written,
    before any of them came into being.
17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!
    How great is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them,
    they are more in number than the sand;
when I awake,
    I am still with You.

Judges 2:6-15

The Death of Joshua

When Joshua dismissed the people, each Israelite went to his inheritance to possess the land. So the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works that the Lord had done for Israel.

Joshua, the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died at the age of one hundred and ten. They buried him in the territory of his inheritance in Timnath Heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.

10 That entire generation passed away, and after them grew up a generation who did not know the Lord or the deeds that He had done for Israel.

Israel’s Unfaithfulness

11 The children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals. 12 They abandoned the Lord God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt. They followed after other gods, the gods of the peoples around them. They worshipped them and provoked the Lord to anger. 13 They abandoned the Lord and served Baal and the Ashtoreths. 14 The anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and He gave them into the hands of those who plundered them; and He sold them into the hands of their enemies around them, so that they were no longer able to stand against their enemies. 15 Whenever they marched out, the hand of the Lord was against them to bring disaster, as the Lord had said and as He had sworn to them. They were in great distress.

2 Corinthians 10:1-11

Paul Defends His Ministry

10 Now I, Paul, who am lowly in presence among you but bold toward you while absent, appeal to you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ. I beg you that when I am present, I might not have to be bold with that confidence by which I intend to be bold against some, who think of us as if we walked according to the flesh. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is complete.

Do you look at things from the outward appearance? If any man trusts that he is Christ’s, let him consider again that, as he is Christ’s, even so are we Christ’s. For even if I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord has given us for edification and not for your destruction, I shall not be ashamed, lest I appear to frighten you by my letters. 10 “For his letters,” they say, “are weighty and powerful, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.” 11 Let such a person consider this: that as we are in word by letters when we are absent, we will also be in deed when we are present.
