Isaiah 61:1-4

61 1 He prophesieth that Christ shall be anointed, and sent to preach. 10 The joy of the faithful.

The (A)Spirit of the Lord God is [a]upon me, therefore hath the Lord anointed me: he hath sent me to preach good tidings unto the poor, to bind up the [b]broken hearted, to preach liberty to the [c]captives, and to them that are bound, the opening of the prison,

To preach the [d]acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of [e]vengeance of our God, to comfort all that mourn,

To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, and to give unto them beauty for [f]ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of gladness for the spirit of heaviness, that they might be called [g]trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

And they shall build the old waste places, and raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the cities that were desolate and waste through many [h]generations.

Isaiah 61:8-11

For I the Lord love judgment, and hate [a]robbery for burnt offering, and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.

And [b]their seed shall be known among the Gentiles, and their buds among the people. All that see them, shall know them, that they are the seed which the Lord hath blessed.

10 [c]I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, and my soul shall be joyful in my God: for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, and covered me with the robe of righteousness: he hath decked me like a bridegroom, and as a bride attireth herself with her jewels.

11 For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth to grow that which is sown in it: so the Lord God will cause righteousness to grow, and praise before all the heathen.

Psalm 126

126 1 This Psalm was made after the return of the people from Babylon, and showeth that the means of their deliverance was wonderful after the seventy years of captivity forspoken by Jeremiah, in Jer. 25:12 and 29:10.

A song of degrees, or Psalm of David.

When the Lord brought again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that [a]dream.

Then was our mouth [b]filled with laughter, and our tongue with joy: then said they among the [c]heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them.

The Lord hath done great things for us, whereof we rejoice.

O Lord, bring again our captivity, as the [d]rivers in the South.

They that sow in tears, shall reap in joy.

They went weeping, and carried [e]precious seed: but they shall return with joy, and bring their sheaves.

Luke 1:46-55

46 [a]Then Mary said, My soul magnifieth the Lord,

47 And my spirit rejoiceth in God my Savior.

48 For he hath [b]looked on the [c]poor degree of his servant: for behold, from henceforth shall all ages call me blessed,

49 Because he that is mighty hath done for me great things, and holy is his Name.

50 And his mercy is from generation to generation on them [d]that fear him.

51 (A)He that showed strength with his [e]arm: (B)he hath [f]scattered the proud in the [g]imagination of their hearts.

52 (C)He hath [h]put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of [i]low degree.

53 (D)He hath filled the [j]hungry with good things, and sent away the rich empty.

54 [k](E)He hath upholden Israel his servant to be mindful of his mercy,

55 ((F)As he hath [l]spoken to our fathers, to wit, to Abraham and his seed) forever.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-24

16 [a]Rejoice evermore.

17 (A)Pray continually.

18 In all things, give thanks, for this is the [b]will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.

19 [c]Quench not the Spirit.

20 Despise not [d]prophesying.

21 Try all things, and keep that which is good.

22 [e]Abstain from all [f]appearance of evil.

23 Now the very God of peace [g]sanctify you throughout: and I pray God that your whole spirit and soul and body, may be kept blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

24 (B)[h][i]Faithful is he which calleth you, which will also [j]do it.

John 1:6-8

(A)[a]There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

This same came for a witness, to bear witness of that light, that all men [b]through him might believe.

He was not [c]that light, but was sent to bear witness of that light.

John 1:19-28

19 [a]Then this is the record of John, when the Jews sent Priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?

20 And he [b]confessed and [c]denied not, and said plainly, I (A)am not that Christ.

21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he said, [d]I am not. Art thou [e]that Prophet? And he answered, No.

22 Then said they unto him, Who art thou, that we may give an answer to them that sent us? What sayest thou of thyself?

23 He said, I (B)am the voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the Prophet Isaiah.

24 [f]Now they which were sent, were of the Pharisees.

25 And they asked him, and said unto him, [g]Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, neither Elijah, nor that Prophet?

26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there is one [h]among you, whom ye know not.

27 (C)He it is that cometh after me, which was before me, whose shoe latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John did baptize.
