Psalm 80:1-7

Psalm 80

Hear, O Shepherd of Israel

Heading

For the choir director. To “Lilies.”[a] A Testimony.[b] By Asaph. A psalm.

Opening Plea

O Shepherd of Israel, give ear,
you who lead Joseph like a flock.
You who are seated above the cherubim, shine forth.
Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh,
stir up your might.
Come with salvation for us.

Refrain

God, restore us, and make your face shine,
    so we will be saved.

The Problem

Lord God of Armies, how long will your anger smoke
against the prayer of your people?
You make them eat bread with tears,
and you make them drink tears by the quart.[c]
You create strife between us and our neighbors,
so our enemies join together in mocking us.

Refrain

God of Armies, restore us, and make your face shine,
    so we will be saved.

Psalm 80:17-19

17 Let your hand rest on the man at your right hand,
on the son of man whom you have made strong for yourself.[a]
18 Then we will not turn away from you.
Cause us to live, and we will call on your name.

Refrain

19 Lord God of Armies, restore us, and make your face shine,
    so we will be saved.

Zechariah 13

A Fountain to Wash Away Sin

13 On that day[a] a fountain will be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness.

In that day, declares the Lord of Armies, I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered. I will also remove the prophets and the impure spirit from the land. If anyone still prophesies, his father and his mother who gave birth to him will tell him, “You shall not live, because you have spoken lies in the name of the Lord!” Then his father and his mother who gave birth to him will stab him when he prophesies.

In that day each of those prophets will be ashamed of his vision. When he prophesies, he will not put on a prophet’s garment made of hair in order to deceive. Instead he will say, “I am not a prophet. I have been a tiller of the soil since my youth, when a man bought me.” Someone will ask him, “What are these wounds on your body?”[b] He will reply, “I received these wounds in the house of my friends.”

Strike the Shepherd, and the Sheep Will Be Scattered

Awake, O sword, against my shepherd,
and against the man who is my associate, declares the Lord of Armies.
Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered,
and I will turn my hand against the little ones.[c]

This will take place in the whole land, declares the Lord:
Two thirds of those who remain in it will be cut off and perish,
but one third will be left in it.
I will put that third into the fire,
and I will refine them as silver is refined,
and I will test them as gold is tested.
They will call on my name, and I will answer them.
I will say, “This is my people.”
And they will say, “The Lord is my God.”

Revelation 14:6-13

The Three Angels

Then I saw another angel flying in the middle of the sky. He had the everlasting gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth, to every nation, tribe, language, and people. He said with a loud voice:

Fear God and give him glory,
because the hour of his judgment has come.
Worship him who made the sky, the earth, the sea, and the springs of water.

Another angel, a second,[a] followed. He said, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the Great,[b] who made every nation drink from the wine of her adulterous desire.”

Another angel, a third one, followed them. He said with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he will also drink from the wine of God’s wrath, which has been poured undiluted[c] into the cup of his anger, and he will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment is going to rise forever and ever. Those who worship the beast and his image, and anyone who receives the mark of his name, are going to have no rest day and night.”

12 Here patient endurance is needed by the saints, who hold on to the commands of God and their faith in Jesus. 13 And I heard a voice from heaven say,[d] “Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.”

“Yes,” says the Spirit, “because they will rest from their labors, for their works follow them.”
