Psalm 28

A Prayer for Help, and Praise for Its Answer.

A Psalm of David.

28 To You, Lord, I call;
My (A)rock, do not be deaf to me,
For if You (B)are silent to me,
I will become like those who (C)go down to the pit.
Hear the (D)sound of my pleadings when I cry to You for help,
When I (E)raise my hands (F)toward [a]Your holy (G)sanctuary.
(H)Do not drag me away with the wicked
And with those who practice injustice,
Who (I)speak peace with their neighbors,
While evil is in their hearts.
Give back to them (J)according to their work and according to the evil of their practices;
Give back to them according to the work of their hands;
Repay them what is due them.
Because they (K)do not regard the works of the Lord
Nor the deeds of His hands,
He will tear them down and not build them up.

Blessed be the Lord,
Because He (L)has heard the sound of my pleading.
The Lord is my (M)strength and my (N)shield;
My heart (O)trusts in Him, and I am helped;
Therefore (P)my heart triumphs,
And with (Q)my song I shall thank Him.
The Lord is [b]their (R)strength,
And He is a refuge of (S)salvation to His anointed.
(T)Save Your people and bless (U)Your inheritance;
Be their (V)shepherd also, and (W)carry them forever.

Jeremiah 31:10-14

10 Hear the word of the Lord, you nations,
And declare it in the (A)coastlands far away,
And say, “He who scattered Israel will (B)gather him,
And He will keep him as a (C)shepherd keeps his flock.”
11 For the Lord has (D)ransomed Jacob
And redeemed him from the hand of him who was (E)stronger than he.
12 “They will (F)come and shout for joy on the (G)height of Zion,
And they will be (H)radiant over the [a]bounty of the Lord
Over the (I)grain, the new wine, the oil,
And over the young of the (J)flock and the herd.
And their life will be like a (K)watered garden,
And they will (L)never languish again.
13 Then the virgin will rejoice in the (M)dance,
And the young men and the old together;
For I will (N)turn their mourning into joy
And comfort them, and give them (O)joy for their sorrow.
14 I will refresh the soul of the priests with [b]abundance,
And My people will be (P)satisfied with My goodness,” declares the Lord.

John 5:19-40

19 Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, (A)the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever [a]the Father does, these things the Son also does in the same way. 20 (B)For the Father loves the Son and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him (C)greater works than these, so that you will be amazed. 21 For just as the Father raises the dead and (D)gives them life, so (E)the Son also gives life to whom He wishes. 22 For not even the Father judges anyone, but (F)He has given all judgment to the Son, 23 so that all will honor the Son just as they honor the Father. (G)The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, the one who hears My word, and (H)believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and (I)does not come into judgment, but has (J)passed out of death into life.

Two Resurrections

25 Truly, truly, I say to you, [b](K)a time is coming and [c]even now has arrived, when (L)the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who (M)hear will live. 26 For just as the Father has life in Himself, so He (N)gave to the Son also to have life in Himself; 27 and He gave Him authority to (O)execute judgment, because He is [d]the Son of Man. 28 Do not be amazed at this; for [e](P)a time is coming when (Q)all who are in the tombs will hear His voice, 29 and will come out: (R)those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the bad deeds to a resurrection of judgment.

30 (S)I can do nothing [f]on My own. As I hear, I judge; and (T)My judgment is [g]righteous, because I do not seek My own will but (U)the will of Him who sent Me.

31 (V)If I alone testify about Myself, My testimony is not [h]true. 32 There is (W)another who testifies about Me, and I know that the testimony which He gives about Me is true.

Testimony of John the Baptist

33 You have sent messengers to John, and he (X)has testified to the truth. 34 But (Y)the testimony I receive is not from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved. 35 He was (Z)the lamp that was burning and shining, and you (AA)were willing to rejoice for [i]a while in his light.

Testimony of Works

36 But the testimony I have is greater than the testimony of John; for (AB)the works which the Father has given Me (AC)to accomplish—the very works that I do—testify about Me, that the Father (AD)has sent Me.

Testimony of the Father

37 And the Father who sent Me, (AE)He has testified about Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form. 38 Also you do not have (AF)His word remaining in you, because you do not believe Him whom He (AG)sent.

Testimony of the Scripture

39 [j](AH)You examine the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is (AI)those very Scriptures that testify about Me; 40 and yet you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.
