Joshua 3:7-17

Then Yahweh said to Joshua, “This day I will begin to (A)magnify you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you. Moreover, you shall command the priests who are carrying the ark of the covenant, saying, ‘When you come to the edge of the waters of the Jordan, you shall stand still in the Jordan.’” Then Joshua said to the sons of Israel, “Come near, and hear the words of Yahweh your God.” 10 And Joshua said, “By this you shall know that (B)the living God is among you, and that He will assuredly (C)dispossess from before you the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Hivite, the Perizzite, the Girgashite, the Amorite, and the Jebusite. 11 Behold, the ark of the covenant of (D)the Lord of all the earth is crossing over ahead of you into the Jordan. 12 So now, (E)take for yourselves twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one man for each tribe. 13 And it will be that when the soles of the feet of the priests who carry the ark of Yahweh, the Lord of all the earth, rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan will be cut off, and the waters which are [a]flowing down from above [b]will (F)stand in one heap.”

14 So it happened that when the people set out from their tents to cross the Jordan with the priests carrying (G)the ark of the covenant before the people, 15 and when those who carried the ark came into the Jordan, and the feet of the priests carrying the ark were dipped in the edge of the water (for the (H)Jordan overflows all its banks all the days of harvest), 16 (I)the waters which were [c]flowing down from above stood and rose up in (J)one heap, a great distance away at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan; and those which were [d]flowing down toward the sea of the (K)Arabah, the Salt Sea, were completely cut off. So the people crossed opposite Jericho. 17 And the priests who carried the ark of the covenant of Yahweh stood firm (L)on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan while all Israel crossed on dry ground until all the nation had completed crossing the Jordan.

Psalm 107:1-7

BOOK 5

Yahweh Saves in Times of Trouble

107 Oh (A)give thanks to Yahweh, for (B)He is good,
For His lovingkindness endures forever.
Let (C)the redeemed of Yahweh say so,
Whom He has (D)redeemed from the hand of the adversary
And (E)gathered from the lands,
From the east and from the west,
From the north and from the [a]south.

They (F)wandered in the wilderness along the way of the wasteland;
They did not find an inhabited (G)city.
Hungry [b]and thirsty,
Their (H)soul fainted within them.
Then they (I)cried out to Yahweh in their trouble;
He delivered them out of their distresses.
He led them by a [c](J)straight way,
To go to (K)an inhabited city.

Psalm 107:33-37

33 He [a](A)makes rivers into a [b]wilderness
And springs of water into a thirsty ground;
34 A (B)fruitful land into a (C)salt waste,
Because of the evil of those who inhabited it.
35 He (D)makes a wilderness into a pool of water
And a dry land into springs of water;
36 And there He causes the hungry to inhabit,
So that they may establish (E)an inhabited city,
37 And sow fields and (F)plant vineyards,
And produce a fruitful harvest.

1 Thessalonians 2:9-13

For you remember, brothers, our (A)labor and hardship, how (B)working night and day so as not to be a (C)burden to any of you, we proclaimed to you the (D)gospel of God. 10 You are witnesses, and so is (E)God, of (F)how devoutly and righteously and blamelessly we [a]behaved toward you [b]believers; 11 just as you know how we were (G)exhorting and encouraging and (H)bearing witness to each one of you as (I)a father would his own children, 12 so that you would (J)walk in a manner worthy of the God who (K)calls you into His own kingdom and (L)glory.

13 And for this reason we also (M)thank God without ceasing that when you received the (N)word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it (O)not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, (P)which also is at work in you who believe.

Matthew 23:1-12

The Scribes and Pharisees Denounced

23 (A)Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples, saying: (B)The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses; therefore all that they tell you, do and keep, but do not do according to their deeds; for they say things and do not do them. (C)And they tie up heavy burdens and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are unwilling to move them with so much as a finger. But they do all their deeds (D)to be noticed by men; for they (E)broaden their [a]phylacteries and lengthen (F)the tassels of their garments. And they (G)love the place of honor at banquets and the best seats in the synagogues, and respectful greetings in the marketplaces, and being called (H)Rabbi by men. But (I)do not be called (J)Rabbi; for One is your Teacher, and you are all brothers. And do not call anyone on earth your father; for (K)One is your Father, He who is in heaven. 10 Do not be called instructors; for One is your Instructor, that is, Christ. 11 (L)But the greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 (M)And whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.
