121 1 This Psalm teacheth that the faithful ought only to look for help at God, 7 who only doth maintain, preserve and prosper his Church.
A song of degrees.
1 I will lift up mine eyes [a]unto the mountains, from whence my help shall come.
2 Mine help cometh from the Lord, which hath made the [b]heaven and the earth.
3 He will not suffer thy foot to slip: for he that keepeth thee, will not [c]slumber.
4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel, will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shadow at thy right hand.
6 The sun shall not [d]smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall keep thy soul.
8 The Lord shall preserve thy [e]going out, and thy coming in from henceforth and forever.
29 ¶ Now at (A)midnight, the Lord [a]smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne, unto the firstborn of the captive that was in prison, and all the firstborn of beasts.
30 And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians: and there was a great cry in Egypt: for there was [b]no house where there was not one dead.
31 And he called to Moses and to Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, get you out from among my people, both ye, and the children of Israel, and go serve the Lord as ye have said.
32 Take also your sheep and your cattle as ye have said, and depart, and [c]bless me also.
33 And the Egyptians did force the people, because they would send them out of the land in haste: for they said, We die all.
34 Therefore the people took their dough before it was leavened, even their dough bound in clothes upon their shoulders.
35 And the children of Israel did according to the saying of Moses, and they asked of the Egyptians (B)jewels of silver and jewels of gold, and raiment.
36 And the Lord gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians: and they [d]granted their request: so they spoiled the Egyptians.
37 Then the (C)children of Israel took their journey from [e]Rameses to Succoth about six hundred thousand men of foot, besides children.
38 And [f]a great multitude of sundry sorts of people went out with them, and sheep, and beeves, and cattle in great abundance.
39 And they baked the dough which they brought out of Egypt, and made unleavened cakes: for it was not leavened, because they were thrust out of Egypt, neither could they tarry, nor yet prepare themselves vittles.
40 ¶ So the dwelling of the children of Israel, while they dwelled in Egypt, was (D)four hundred and thirty years.
41 And when the [g]four hundred and thirty years were expired, even the selfsame day departed all the hosts of the Lord out of the land of Egypt.
42 It is a night to be kept holy to the Lord, because he brought them out of the land of Egypt: this is that night of the Lord, which all the children of Israel must keep throughout their generations.
13 1 He willeth that we submit ourselves to Magistrates: 8 To love our neighbor: 13 To love uprightly, 14 and to put on Christ.
1 Let (A)[a]every [b]soul be subject unto the higher [c]powers: [d]for there is no power but of God: and the powers that be, are [e]ordained of God.
2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist, shall receive to themselves condemnation.
3 [f]For Magistrates are not to be feared for good works, but for evil. [g]Wilt thou then be without fear of the power? do well: so shalt thou have praise of the same.
4 For he is the minister of God for thy wealth: [h]but if thou do evil, fear: for he beareth not the sword for nought: for he is the minister of God to [i]take vengeance on him that doeth evil.
5 [j]Wherefore ye must be subject, not because of wrath only, but [k]also for conscience sake.
6 [l]For, for this cause ye pay also tribute: for they are God’s ministers, applying themselves for the same thing.
7 (B)Give to all men therefore their duty: tribute, to whom ye owe tribute: custom, to whom custom: fear, to whom [m]fear: honor, to whom ye owe [n]honor.
