Psalm 149
Praise for God’s Triumph
1 Hallelujah!
Sing to the Lord a new song,(A)
his praise in the assembly of the faithful.(B)
2 Let Israel celebrate its Maker;
let the children of Zion rejoice in their King.(C)
3 Let them praise his name with dancing
and make music to him with tambourine and lyre.(D)
4 For the Lord takes pleasure in his people;(E)
he adorns the humble with salvation.(F)
5 Let the faithful celebrate in triumphal glory;
let them shout for joy on their beds.(G)
6 Let the exaltation of God be in their mouths[a]
and a double-edged sword in their hands,(H)
7 inflicting vengeance on the nations
and punishment on the peoples,(I)
8 binding their kings with chains
and their dignitaries with iron shackles,(J)
9 carrying out the judgment decreed against them.
This honor is for all his faithful people.(K)

The Ninth Plague: Darkness
21 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, and there will be darkness over the land of Egypt, a darkness that can be felt.” 22 So Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was thick darkness throughout the land of Egypt for three days. 23 One person could not see another, and for three days they did not move from where they were. Yet all the Israelites had light where they lived.(A)
24 Pharaoh summoned Moses and said, “Go, worship the Lord. Even your families may go with you; only your flocks and herds must stay behind.”
25 Moses responded, “You must also let us have[a] sacrifices and burnt offerings to prepare for the Lord our God. 26 Even our livestock must go with us; not a hoof will be left behind because we will take some of them to worship the Lord our God. We will not know what we will use to worship the Lord until we get there.”
27 But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart,(B) and he was unwilling to let them go. 28 Pharaoh said to him, “Leave me! Make sure you never see my face again, for on the day you see my face, you will die.”
29 “As you have said,” Moses replied, “I will never see your face again.”(C)
15 And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful[a] are the feet of those who bring good news.[b](A) 16 But not all obeyed the gospel.(B) For Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed our message?[c](C) 17 So faith comes from what is heard,(D) and what is heard comes through the message about Christ.[d](E) 18 But I ask, “Did they not hear?” Yes, they did:
19 But I ask, “Did Israel not understand?” First, Moses said,
I will make you jealous
of those who are not a nation;(G)
I will make you angry by a nation
that lacks understanding.[f](H)
20 And Isaiah says boldly,
I was found
by those who were not looking for me;
I revealed myself
to those who were not asking for me.[g](I)
21 But to Israel he says, All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and defiant people.[h](J)
