Version
Psalm 8

Humanity is God’s Splendor

Psalm 8

For the music director, upon the Gittite lyre: a psalm of David.
Adonai our Lord,
how excellent is Your Name over all the earth!
You set Your splendor above the heavens.
Out of the mouths of babies and toddlers
You established power,[a] because of Your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which You established—
what is man, that You are mindful of him?
And the son of man, that You care for him?[b]
Yet You made him a little lower than the angels,
and crowned him with glory and majesty!
You gave him dominion over the works of Your hands.
You put all things under their feet:[c]
all sheep and oxen,
and also beasts of the field,
birds in the air, and fish in the ocean—
all passing through the paths of the seas.

10 Adonai our Lord, how excellent is Your Name over all the earth!

Exodus 2:11-15

11 Now it happened in those days, after Moses had grown up, that he went out to his brothers and saw their burdens. He noticed an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own people. [a] 12 So he looked around and when he saw that there was nobody, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. 13 Then he went out the following day, and saw two Hebrew men fighting. So he said to the guilty one, “Why are you beating your companion?”

14 But the man answered, “Who made you a ruler and a judge over us? Are you saying you’re going to kill me—just as you killed the Egyptian?”

Then Moses was afraid, and thought, “For sure the deed had become known.” 15 When Pharaoh heard about this, he tried to kill Moses.

But Moses fled from Pharaoh and settled in the land of Midian,[b] where he sat down by a well.

Romans 11:33-36

33 O the depth of the riches,
both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable are His judgments
    and how incomprehensible His ways!
34 For “who has known the mind of Adonai,
or who has been His counselor?”[a]
35 Or “who has first given to Him,
that it shall be repaid to him?”[b]

36 For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever! Amen.
