Version
Psalm 8

The music leader must use special music.

This is a song that David wrote.

The sky at night[a]

Lord, our ruler,
your name is famous all over the world.
The sky above shows how great you are.
You have taught children and babies to praise you.
You do that to show your enemies how strong you are.
Anyone who turns against you has to be quiet.
Your cruel enemies can do nothing!
You made the skies with your own hands.
When I look up, I see the moon and the stars.
You have put them all in their right place.
So why do you even think about men and women?
Why do you take care of humans?
You have made their place a little below God himself.[b]
You have given them honour, like kings.
You have chosen them to rule everything that you have made.
You have put everything under their authority.
7-8 Yes! Humans rule them all:
    Farm animals and wild animals,
birds, fish and all the things that swim in the sea.

Lord, our ruler,
your name is famous all over the world.

Exodus 2:11-15

Moses runs away to Midian

11 Many years later, Moses grew to become a man. At that time, he went out to visit his own people, the Israelites. He saw that they had to do very hard work without any rest. He saw an Egyptian man. He was attacking an Israelite man. The Egyptian was hitting someone from Moses' own country! 12 Moses looked in every direction. He saw that nobody was near. So Moses killed the Egyptian. He buried his body in the sand to hide it.

13 The next day, Moses went out again to visit his people. He saw that two Israelite men were fighting each other. Moses said to the guilty man, ‘Why are you attacking your friend, who is an Israelite like you?’[a]

14 The man answered, ‘You do not have authority over us! You cannot judge us! Do you want to kill me, as you killed that Egyptian man?’ Then Moses was afraid. He said to himself, ‘People must know what I have done!’

15 Pharaoh heard about what had happened. He wanted to kill Moses. So Moses ran away from Pharaoh. He went from Egypt to the country called Midian and he lived there.[b]

One day, Moses sat down by a well which was near where he lived.

Romans 11:33-36

33 Yes! God is very great! He has everything! He knows and he understands all things! Nobody can completely understand the things that he decides. Nobody can explain the ways in which he works. 34 The Bible says this:

‘Nobody knows the thoughts of the Lord God.
Nobody is able to tell him what he should do.’[a]
35 ‘Nobody has ever given anything to God,
so that God had a debt to pay back to them.’[b]

36 It is God who made all things. He also causes all things to continue. And all things are there to show how great he is.

We praise him! He is great for ever! Amen. This is true!
