Psalm 47

Psalm 47

God Our King

For the choir director. A psalm of the sons of Korah.

Clap your hands, all you peoples;(A)
shout to God with a jubilant cry.(B)
For the Lord, the Most High, is awe-inspiring,
a great King over the whole earth.(C)
He subdues peoples under us
and nations under our feet.(D)
He chooses for us our inheritance—
the pride of Jacob, whom he loves.(E)Selah

God ascends among shouts of joy,
the Lord, with the sound of a ram’s horn.(F)
Sing praise to God, sing praise;
sing praise to our King, sing praise!(G)
Sing a song of wisdom,[a]
for God is King of the whole earth.(H)

God reigns over the nations;
God is seated on his holy throne.(I)
The nobles of the peoples have assembled
with the people of the God of Abraham.(J)
For the leaders[b] of the earth belong to God;
he is greatly exalted.(K)

1 Kings 18:36-39

36 At the time for offering the evening sacrifice,(A) the prophet Elijah approached the altar and said, “Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel,(B) today let it be known(C) that you are God in Israel and I am your servant, and that at your word I have done all these things. 37 Answer me, Lord! Answer me so that this people will know that you, the Lord, are God(D) and that you have turned their hearts back.”

38 Then the Lord’s fire fell and consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench. 39 When all the people saw it, they fell facedown(E) and said, “The Lord, he is God! The Lord, he is God!” (F)

1 John 4:1-6

The Spirit of Truth and the Spirit of Error

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits(A) to see if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

This is how you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh(B) is from God,(C) but every spirit that does not confess Jesus[a] is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist,(D) which you have heard is coming; even now it is already in the world.

You are from God, little children, and you have conquered them, because the one who is in you(E) is greater than the one who is in the world.(F) They are from the world.(G) Therefore what they say is from the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God. Anyone who knows God listens to us;(H) anyone who is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of deception.(I)
