Psalm 13

Psalm 13[a]

Prayer for Help

For the leader. A psalm of David.

I

How long, Lord? Will you utterly forget me?
How long will you hide your face from me?(A)
How long must I carry sorrow in my soul,
grief in my heart day after day?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?

II

Look upon me, answer me, Lord, my God!
Give light to my eyes lest I sleep in death,
Lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed,”
lest my foes rejoice at my downfall.(B)

III

But I trust in your mercy.
Grant my heart joy in your salvation,
I will sing to the Lord,
for he has dealt bountifully with me!(C)

Genesis 26:23-25

23 From there Isaac went up to Beer-sheba. 24 The same night the Lord appeared to him and said: I am the God of Abraham, your father. Do not fear, for I am with you. I will bless you and multiply your descendants for the sake of Abraham, my servant.(A) 25 So Isaac built an altar there and invoked the Lord by name. After he had pitched his tent there, Isaac’s servants began to dig a well nearby.

Luke 17:1-4

Chapter 17

Temptations to Sin. (A)He said to his disciples, “Things that cause sin will inevitably occur, but woe to the person through whom they occur. It would be better for him if a millstone were put around his neck and he be thrown into the sea than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. Be on your guard![a] If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him.(B) And if he wrongs you seven times in one day and returns to you seven times saying, ‘I am sorry,’ you should forgive him.”(C)
