Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Pleading and Trust.
A Prayer of David.
86 (A)Incline Your ear, Lord, and answer me;
For I am (B)afflicted and needy.
2 (C)Protect my [a]soul, for I am (D)godly;
You my God, save Your servant who (E)trusts in You.
3 Be (F)gracious to me, Lord,
For (G)I call upon You all day long.
4 Make the soul of Your servant joyful,
For to You, Lord, (H)I lift up my soul.
5 For You, Lord, are (I)good, and (J)ready to forgive,
And (K)abundant in mercy to all who call upon You.
6 (L)Listen, Lord, to my prayer;
And give Your attention to the sound of my pleading!
7 On (M)the day of my trouble I will call upon You,
For (N)You will answer me.
8 There is (O)no one like You among the gods, Lord,
Nor are there any works (P)like Yours.
9 (Q)All nations whom You have made will come and worship before You, Lord,
And they will glorify Your name.
10 For You are (R)great, and You (S)do [b]wondrous deeds;
You alone (T)are God.
3 Speak and say, ‘This is what the Lord [a]God says:
“Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt,
The great [b](A)monster that lies in the midst of his [c]canals,
That (B)has said, ‘My Nile is mine, and I myself have made it.’
4 I will put (C)hooks in your jaws
And make the fish of your [d]canals cling to your scales.
And I will bring you up out of the midst of your [e]canals,
And all the fish of your [f]canals will cling to your scales.
5 I will (D)abandon you to the wilderness, you and all the fish of your [g]canals;
You will fall on the [h]open field; you will not be brought together or [i](E)gathered.
I have given you for (F)food to the animals of the earth and to the birds of the sky.
6 Then all the inhabitants of Egypt will know that I am the Lord,
Because they have been only a (G)staff made of reed to the house of Israel.
7 When they took hold of you with the hand,
You (H)broke and tore all their [j]hands;
And when they leaned on you,
You broke and made all their hips [k]shake.”
53 When He left that place, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be very hostile and to interrogate Him about many subjects, 54 (A)plotting against Him (B)to catch [a]Him in something He might say.
God Knows and Cares
12 Under these circumstances, after [b]so many thousands of [c]people had gathered together that they were stepping on one another, He began saying to His disciples first of all, “(C)Beware of the [d]leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. 2 (D)But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. 3 Accordingly, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have [e]whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed on (E)the housetops.
