126 1 This Psalm was made after the return of the people from Babylon, and showeth that the means of their deliverance was wonderful after the seventy years of captivity forspoken by Jeremiah, in Jer. 25:12 and 29:10.
A song of degrees, or Psalm of David.
1 When the Lord brought again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that [a]dream.
2 Then was our mouth [b]filled with laughter, and our tongue with joy: then said they among the [c]heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them.
3 The Lord hath done great things for us, whereof we rejoice.
4 O Lord, bring again our captivity, as the [d]rivers in the South.
5 They that sow in tears, shall reap in joy.
6 They went weeping, and carried [e]precious seed: but they shall return with joy, and bring their sheaves.
7 And this is the age of Abraham’s life, which he lived, an hundred seventy and five years.
8 Then Abraham yielded the spirit, and died in a good age, an old man, and of great years, and was [a]gathered to his people.
9 And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron son of Zohar the Hittite, before Mamre,
10 Which (A)field Abraham bought of the Hittites, where Abraham was buried with Sarah his wife.
11 ¶ And after the death of Abraham God blessed Isaac his son, (B)and Isaac dwelt by Beer Lahai Roi.
13 [a]But we ought to give thanks always to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because that God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation, through [b]sanctification of the Spirit, and the [c]faith of truth,
14 Whereunto he called you by our [d]Gospel, to obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
15 [e]Therefore, brethren, stand fast and keep the instructions, which ye have been taught, either by word, or by our Epistle.
16 Now the same Jesus Christ our Lord, and our God, even the Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
17 Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every word and good work.
3 1 He desireth them to further the preaching of the Gospel with their prayers, 6 and to withdraw themselves from those, who through idleness, 11 and curiosity pervert good order: 14 Whom he excludeth from the company of the faithful.
1 Furthermore, [f]brethren, (A)pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free passage and be glorified, even as it is with you.
2 And that we may be delivered from [g]unreasonable and evil men: [h]for all men have not faith.
3 But the Lord is faithful, which will stablish you, and keep you from [i]evil.
4 [j]And we are persuaded of you through the Lord, that ye both do, and will do the things which we warn you of.
5 [k]And the Lord guide your hearts to the love of God, and the waiting for of Christ.
