Genesis 21:1-7

The Birth of Isaac

21 The Lord came to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised.(A) Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the appointed time God had told him.(B) Abraham named his son who was born to him—the one Sarah bore to him—Isaac.(C) When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God had commanded him.(D) Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.(E)

Sarah said, “God has made me laugh, and everyone who hears will laugh with me.”[a](F) She also said, “Who would have told Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne a son for him[b] in his old age.”

Hebrews 3:1-6

Our Apostle and High Priest

Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession.(A) He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was in all God’s household. For Jesus is considered worthy of more glory than Moses, just as the builder has more honor than the house. Now every house is built by someone, but the one who built everything is God.(B) Moses was faithful as a servant(C) in all God’s household, as a testimony to what would be said in the future. But Christ was faithful as a Son over his household. And we are that household if we hold on to our confidence and the hope in which we boast.[a](D)
