33 1 He exhorteth good men to praise God, for that he hath not only created all things, and by his providence governeth the same, but also is faithful in his promises, 10 he understandeth man’s heart, and scattereth the counsel of the wicked, 16 so that no man can be preserved by any creature or man’s strength: by they, that put their confidence in his mercy, shall be preserved from all adversities.
1 Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous: for it [a]becometh upright men to be thankful.
2 Praise the Lord with harp: sing unto him with viol and [b]instrument of ten strings.
3 Sing unto him a new song: sing cheerfully with a loud voice.
4 For the [c]word of the Lord is righteous, and all his [d]works are faithful.
5 He [e]loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.
6 By the word of the Lord were the heavens made, and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
7 He [f]gathereth the waters of the sea together as upon an heap, and layeth up the depths in his treasures.
8 Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all them that dwell in the world, fear him.
9 For he spake, and it was done: he commanded, and it [g]stood.
10 The Lord breaketh the [h]counsel of the heathen, and bringeth to nought the devices of the people.
11 The counsel of the Lord shall stand forever, and the thoughts of his heart throughout all ages.
12 Blessed is that nation, whose [i]God is the Lord: even the people that he hath chosen for his inheritance.
17 ¶ After that he returned from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer and of the kings that were with him, came the King of Sodom forth to meet him in the valley of Shaveh, which is the (A)King’s dale.
18 And (B)Melchizedek King of Salem [a]brought forth bread and wine: and he was a Priest of the most high God.
19 Therefore he [b]blessed him, saying, Blessed art thou, Abram, of God most high, Possessor of heaven and earth,
20 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thine hand. (C)And Abram gave him tithes of all.
21 Then the king of Sodom said to Abram, Give me the [c]persons, and take the goods to thyself.
22 And Abram said to the king of Sodom, [d]I have lifted up mine hand unto the Lord the most high God possessor of heaven and earth,
23 [e]That I will not take of all that is thine, so much as a thread or shoe latchet, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich,
24 [f]Save only that, which the young men have eaten, and the parts of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre: let them take their parts.

1 And when they were come safe, then they knew that the Isle was called [a]Malta.
2 And the Barbarians showed us no little kindness, for they kindled a fire, and received us everyone, because of the present shower, and because of the cold.
3 [b]And when Paul had gathered a number of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and leaped on his hand.
4 [c]Now when the Barbarians saw the worm hang on his hand, they said among themselves, This man surely is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet [d]Vengeance hath not suffered to live.
5 But he shook off the worm into the fire, and felt no harm.
6 Howbeit they waited when he should have [e]swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: [f]but after they had looked a great while, and saw no inconvenience come to him, they changed their minds, and said, That he was a God.
7 [g]In the same quarters, the chief man of the Isle (whose name was Publius) had possessions: the same received us, and lodged us three days courteously.
8 And so it was, that the father of Publius lay sick of the fever, and of a bloody flix: to whom Paul entered in, and when he prayed, he laid his hands on him, and healed him.
9 [h]When this then was done, others also in the Isle, which had diseases, came to him, and were healed,
10 [i]Which also did us great honor: and when we departed, they laded us with things necessary.
