Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
22 [a]Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ street, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too [b]superstitious.
23 For as I passed by, and beheld your [c]devotions, I found an altar wherein was written, UNTO THE [d]UNKNOWN GOD. Whom ye then ignorantly worship, him show I unto you.
24 [e]God that made the world, and all things that are therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, (A)dwelleth not in temples made with hands.
25 (B)Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he giveth to all life and breath and all things,
26 [f]And hath made of [g]one blood all mankind, to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath assigned the seasons which were ordained before, and the bounds of their habitation,
27 That they should seek the Lord, if so be they might have [h]groped after him, and found him, though doubtless he be not far from every one of us.
28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being, as also certain of your own Poets have said: For we are also his generation.
29 (C)Forasmuch then, as we are the generation of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone [i]graven by art and the invention of man.
30 [j]And the time of this ignorance God regarded not: but now he admonisheth all men everywhere to repent.
31 Because he hath appointed a day in the which he will judge the world in righteousness, by that man whom he hath appointed, whereof he hath given an [k]assurance to all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
8 Praise our God, ye people, and make the voice of his praise to be heard.
9 Which [a]holdeth our souls in life, and suffereth not our feet to slip.
10 For thou, O God, hast proved us, thou hast tried us as silver is tried.
11 Thou hast brought us unto the [b]snare, and laid a strait chain upon our loins.
12 Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads: we went into fire and into water, but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.
13 I will go into thine [c]House with burnt offerings, and will pay thee my vows,
14 Which my lips have promised, and my mouth hath spoken in mine affliction.
15 I will offer unto thee the burnt offerings of fat rams with incense: I will prepare bullocks and goats. Selah.
16 [d]Come and hearken, all ye that fear God, and I will tell you what he hath done to my soul.
17 I called unto him with my mouth, and he was exalted with my tongue.
18 [e]If I regard wickedness in mine heart, the Lord will not hear me.
19 But God hath heard me, and considered the voice of my prayer.
20 Praised be God, which hath not put back my prayer, nor his mercy from me.
13 [a]And who is it that will harm you, if ye follow that which is good?
14 (A)Notwithstanding blessed are ye, if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake. [b]Yea, (B)fear not their [c]fear, neither be troubled.
15 But [d]sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, [e]and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekness and reverence.
16 Having a good conscience, that when they speak evil of you as of evil doers, they may be ashamed which slander your good conversation in Christ.
17 [f]For it is better (if the will of God be so) that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.
18 (C)[g]For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, [h]the just for the unjust, [i]that he might bring us to God, [j]and was put to death concerning the [k]flesh, but was quickened by the spirit.
19 [l]By [m]the which he also went, and preached unto the [n]spirits that are in prison.
20 Which were in time passed disobedient, when [o]once the long suffering of God abode in the days of (D)Noah, while the Ark was preparing, wherein few, that is, eight [p]souls were saved in the water.
21 [q]Whereof the baptism that now is, answering that figure, (which is not a putting away of the filth of the flesh, but a confident demanding with a good conscience maketh to [r]God) saveth us also [s]by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
22 Which is at the right hand of God, gone into heaven, to whom the Angels, and Powers, and might are subject.
15 [a]If ye love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever,
17 Even the [b]Spirit of truth, whom the [c]world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him: for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you fatherless: but I will come to you.
19 Yet a little while, and the world shall see me no more, but ye shall see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
20 At that day shall ye know that I am [d]in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them: is he that loveth me: and he that loveth me, shall be loved of my Father: and I will love him, and will [e]show mine own self to him.
