Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
23 1 Because the Prophet had proved the great mercies of God at divers times, and in sundry manners, he gathereth a certain assurance, fully persuading himself that God will continue the very same goodness towards him forever.
A Psalm of David.
1 The Lord is my (A)shepherd, [a]I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to rest in green pasture, and leadeth me by the still waters.
3 He [b]restoreth my soul, and leadeth me in the [c]paths of righteousness for his Name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I should walk through the valley of the [d]shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me: thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
5 Thou dost prepare a [e]table before me in the sight of mine adversaries: thou dost [f]anoint mine head with oil, and my cup runneth over.
6 Doubtless kindness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall remain a long season in the [g]house of the Lord.
15 Now Pharaoh heard this matter, and sought to slay Moses: therefore Moses fled from Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian, and he sat down by a well.
16 And the [a]Priest of Midian had seven daughters, which came and drew water, and filled the troughs, for to water their father’s sheep.
17 Then the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses rose up, and [b]defended them, and watered their sheep.
18 And when they came to Reuel their [c]father, he said, How are ye come so soon today?
19 And they said, A man of Egypt delivered us from the hand of the shepherds, and also drew us water enough, and watered the sheep.
20 Then he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why have ye so left the man? [d]call him that he may eat bread.
21 And Moses agreed to dwell with the man: who gave unto Moses Zipporah his daughter:
22 And she bare a son, (A)whose name he called Gershom: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land.
23 ¶ Then in process of time, the King of Egypt died, and the children of Israel sighed for the bondage and [e]cried: and their cry for the bondage came up unto God.
24 Then God heard their moan, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
25 So God looked upon the children of Israel, and God [f]had respect unto them.
9 [a]But ye are a chosen generation, a royal (A)Priesthood, an holy nation, a people set at liberty, that ye should show forth the virtues of him that hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light,
10 (B)Which in time past were not a people, yet are now the people of God: which in time past were not under mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
11 [b]Dearly beloved, [c]I beseech you, as strangers and pilgrims, (C)[d]abstain from fleshly lusts [e]which fight against the soul,
12 (D)[f] And have your conversation honest among the Gentiles, that they which speak evil of you as of evil doers, [g]may by your good (E)works which they shall see, glorify God in the day of [h]visitation.
