Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
2 ¶ And Hannah prayed and said, My heart rejoices in the LORD, my horn is exalted in the LORD; my mouth is enlarged over my enemies because I have rejoiced in thy saving health.
2 There is none holy as the LORD, for there is none beside thee; neither is there any strong One like our God.
3 Do not multiply thyself speaking great and lofty things; let arrogant words cease from your mouth, for the LORD is the all-knowing God, and the magnificent works are his.
4 The bows of the mighty men have been broken, and the weak are girded with strength.
5 Those that were full have hired themselves out for bread, and those that were hungry ceased so that the barren has given birth to seven, and she that has many children is waxed feeble.
6 The LORD kills, and he gives life; he brings down to Sheol and raises up.
7 The LORD makes poor and makes rich; he brings low and lifts up.
8 He raises up the poor out of the dust and lifts up the beggar from the dunghill to set them among princes and to make them inherit the throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth are the LORD’s, and he has set the world upon them.
9 He keeps the feet of his saints, and the wicked perish in darkness, for no man shall prevail by their own strength.
10 LORD, thine adversaries shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven he shall thunder upon them. The LORD shall judge the ends of the earth, and he shall give strength unto his king and exalt the horn of his anointed. {Heb. Messiah}
2 These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad was with the sons of Bilhah and with the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives; and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report.
3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his other sons because he was the son of his old age, and he made him a coat of many colours.
4 And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him and could not speak peaceably unto him.
5 ¶ And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brethren; and they hated him yet the more.
6 And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:
7 For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about and made obeisance to my sheaf.
8 And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? Or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams and for his words.
9 And he dreamed yet another dream and told it to his brethren, saying, Behold, I have dreamed another dream; and, behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars made obeisance to me.
10 And he told it to his father and to his brethren; and his father reprehended him and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?
11 And his brethren envied him; but his father kept the word.
1 ¶ The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, son of David, son of Abraham.
2 Abraham begat Isaac; Isaac begat Jacob; Jacob begat Judas and his brothers;
3 Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; Phares begat Esrom; Esrom begat Aram;
4 Aram begat Aminadab; Aminadab begat Naasson; Naasson begat Salmon;
5 Salmon begat Booz {Greek word for “Boaz”} of Rachab; Booz begat Obed of Ruth; Obed begat Jesse;
6 Jesse begat David the king; David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;
7 Solomon begat Roboam; Roboam begat Abia; Abia begat Asa;
8 Asa begat Josaphat; Josaphat begat Joram; Joram begat Ozias;
9 Ozias begat Joatham; Joatham begat Achaz; Achaz begat Ezekias;
10 Ezekias begat Manasses; Manasses begat Amon; Amon begat Josias;
11 Josias begat Jechonias and his brothers, about the time they were carried away to Babylon;
12 after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; Salathiel begat Zorobabel;
13 Zorobabel begat Abiud; Abiud begat Eliakim; Eliakim begat Azor;
14 Azor begat Sadoc; Sadoc begat Achim; Achim begat Eliud;
15 Eliud begat Eleazar; Eleazar begat Matthan; Matthan begat Jacob;
16 Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; from the carrying away into Babylon unto the Christ are fourteen generations.
