Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
The Mountain of the House of God
2 This is what Isaiah the son of Amoz saw about Judah and Jerusalem that was coming: 2 In the last days, the mountain of the house of the Lord will be the most important of the mountains. It will be raised above the hills. All the nations will come to it. 3 Many people will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. Then He will teach us about His ways, that we may walk in His paths. For the Law will go out from Zion, and the Word of the Lord from Jerusalem.” 4 He will judge between the nations, and will decide for many people. And they will beat their swords into plows, and their spears into knives for cutting vines. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, and they will not learn about war anymore.
The Day of the Lord
5 Come, people of Jacob. Let us walk in the light of the Lord.
A Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem
122 I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.” 2 Our feet are standing inside your gates, O Jerusalem. 3 Jerusalem is built as a city where people come together. 4 That is where the different families go, the families of the Lord. There they give thanks to the name of the Lord, by the Law that was given to Israel. 5 For thrones were set there for telling who is guilty or not, the thrones of the house of David.
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. May all go well for those who love you. 7 May there be peace within your walls. May all go well within your houses. 8 I will now say, “May peace be within you,” for the good of my brothers and my friends. 9 Because of the house of the Lord our God, I will pray for your good.
11 There is another reason for doing what is right. You know what time it is. It is time for you to wake up from your sleep. The time when we will be taken up to be with Christ is not as far off as when we first put our trust in Him. 12 Night is almost gone. Day is almost here. We must stop doing the sinful things that are done in the dark. We must put on all the things God gives us to fight with for the day. 13 We must act all the time as if it were day. Keep away from wild parties and do not be drunk. Keep yourself free from sex sins and bad actions. Do not fight or be jealous. 14 Let every part of you belong to the Lord Jesus Christ. Do not allow your weak thoughts to lead you into sinful actions.
36 But no one knows the day or the hour. No! Not even the angels in heaven know. The Son does not know. Only the Father knows.
37 “When the Son of Man comes, it will be the same as when Noah lived. 38 In the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking. They were marrying and being given in marriage. This kept on until the day Noah went into the large boat. 39 They did not know what was happening until the flood came and the water carried them all away. It will be like this when the Son of Man comes.
40 “Two men will be working in a field. One will be taken and the other will be left. 41 Two women will be grinding grain. One will be taken and the other will be left.
42 “Because of this, watch! You do not know on what day your Lord is coming. 43 But understand this: If the owner of a house had known when the robber was coming, he would have watched. He would not have allowed his house to have been broken into. 44 You must be ready also. The Son of Man is coming at a time when you do not think He will come.
