Isaiah 2:1-5

The Mountain of Yahweh

The word that Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:

And it shall happen in the future of the days
the mountain of the house[a] of Yahweh shall be established;
it will be among the highest[b] of the mountains,
and it shall be raised from the hills.
All of the nations shall travel to him;
    many peoples shall come.
And they shall say,
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of Yahweh,
to the house[c] of the God of Jacob,
and may he teach us part of his ways,
and let us walk in his paths.”
For instruction shall go out from Zion,
and the word of Yahweh from Jerusalem.
He shall judge between the nations
and he shall arbitrate for many peoples.
They shall beat their swords into ploughshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.
A nation shall not lift up a sword against a nation,
and they shall not learn war again.

The Day of Yahweh

House of Jacob, come and let us walk in the light of Yahweh.

Psalm 122

Jerusalem the Site of God’s Presence

A song of ascents. Of David.[a]

122 I rejoiced in those who said to me,
“Let us go to the house[b] of Yahweh.”
Our feet are standing
within your gates, O Jerusalem—
Jerusalem that is built
as a city that is joined together,
where the tribes go up,
the tribes of Yah[c] as a testimony for Israel,
to give thanks to the name of Yahweh.
For there the thrones sit[d] for judgment,
thrones of David’s house.
Pray[e] for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May those who love you be at ease.
May peace be within your walls,
security within your palaces.”
For the sake of my brothers and my friends,
I will say, “Peace be within you.”
For the sake of the house[f] of Yahweh our God,
I will seek your good.

Romans 13:11-14

11 And do this because you[a] know the time, that it is already the hour for you to wake up from sleep. For our salvation is nearer now than when we believed. 12 The night is far gone, and the day has drawn near. Therefore let us throw off[b] the deeds of darkness and put on the weapons of light. 13 Let us live decently, as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and licentiousness, not in strife and jealousy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ and do not make provision for the desires of the flesh.

Matthew 24:36-44

The Unknown Day and Hour

36 “But concerning that day and hour no one knows—not even the angels of heaven nor the Son—except the Father alone. 37 For just as the days of Noah were, so the coming of the Son of Man will be. 38 For as in the days[a] before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered into the ark. 39 And they did not know anything[b] until the deluge came and swept them[c] all away. So also the coming of the Son of Man will be. 40 Then there will be two men in the field; one will be taken and one left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left. 42 Therefore be on the alert, because you do not know what day your Lord is coming! 43 But understand this: that if the master of the house had known what watch of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 For this reason you also must be ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not think he will come.[d]
