Version
Psalm 142

Psalm 142[a]

A well-written song[b] by David, when he was in the cave;[c] a prayer.

142 To the Lord I cry out;[d]
to the Lord I plead for mercy.[e]
I pour out my lament before him;
I tell him about[f] my troubles.
Even when my strength leaves me,[g]
you watch my footsteps.[h]
In the path where I walk
they have hidden a trap for me.
Look to the right and see.
No one cares about me.[i]
I have nowhere to run;[j]
no one is concerned about my life.[k]
I cry out to you, O Lord;
I say, “You are my shelter,
my security[l] in the land of the living.”
Listen to my cry for help,
for I am in serious trouble.[m]
Rescue me from those who chase me,
for they are stronger than I am.
Free me[n] from prison,
that I may give thanks to your name.
Because of me the godly will assemble,[o]
for you will vindicate me.[p]

Habakkuk 2:12-20

12 Woe to the one who builds a city by bloodshed—

he who starts[a] a town by unjust deeds.
13 Be sure of this! The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has decreed:
The nations’ efforts will go up in smoke;
their exhausting work will be for nothing.[b]
14 For recognition of the Lord’s sovereign majesty will fill the earth
just as the waters fill up the sea.[c]

15 “Woe to you who force your neighbor to drink wine[d]

you who make others intoxicated
by forcing them to drink from the bowl of your furious anger[e]
so you can look at their naked bodies.[f]
16 But you will become drunk[g] with shame, not majesty.[h]
Now it is your turn to drink and expose your uncircumcised foreskin![i]
The cup of wine in the Lord’s right hand[j] is coming to you,
and disgrace will replace your majestic glory!
17 For you will pay in full for your violent acts against Lebanon;[k]
terrifying judgment will come upon you
because of the way you destroyed the wild animals living there.[l]
You have shed human blood
and committed violent acts against lands, cities, and those who live in them.
18 What good[m] is an idol? Why would a craftsman make it?[n]
What good is a metal image that gives misleading oracles?[o]
Why would its creator place his trust in it[p]
and make[q] such mute, worthless things?
19 Woe to the one who says to wood, ‘Wake up!’—
he who says[r] to speechless stone, ‘Awake!’
Can it give reliable guidance?[s]
It is overlaid with gold and silver;
it has no life’s breath inside it.
20 But the Lord is in his majestic palace.[t]
The whole earth is speechless in his presence!”[u]

1 Corinthians 5:9-13

I wrote you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people. 10 In no way did I mean the immoral people of this world, or the greedy and swindlers and idolaters, since you would then have to go out of the world. 11 But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who calls himself a Christian[a] who is sexually immoral, or greedy, or an idolater, or verbally abusive,[b] or a drunkard, or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person. 12 For what do I have to do with judging those outside? Are you not to judge those inside? 13 But God will judge those outside. Remove the evil person from among you.[c]
