Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
40 Therefore the anger of Adonai was kindled against His people,
and He abhorred His inheritance.
41 He handed them to the nations—
those who hated them ruled over them.
42 Their enemies oppressed them,
so they were subdued under their hand.
43 Many times He delivered them,
but they kept rebelling deliberately,
and so sank low into their iniquity.
44 Yet He saw their distress,
when He heard their cry,
45 remembered His covenant to them,[a]
and relented in the greatness of His mercy.
46 He caused them to be pitied
in the presence of all their captors.
47 Save us, Adonai our God,
and gather us from the nations,
so we may praise Your holy Name
and triumph in Your praise.
48 Blessed be Adonai, the God of Israel,
from everlasting even to everlasting!
Let all the people say, “Amen!”
Halleluyah!
12 Adonai said “It is because they have forsaken My Torah that I set before them. They have neither obeyed My voice nor walked according to it, 13 but have walked after the stubbornness of their heart, and after the Baalim that their fathers taught them. 14 Therefore, thus says Adonai-Tzva’ot, the God of Israel, “look, I will make this people eat wormwood and drink poisoned water. 15 I will scatter them among the nations whom neither they nor their fathers have known. I will pursue them with the sword, until I have finished with them.”
16 Thus says Adonai-Tzva’ot:
“Pay attention! Call the dirge-singers and let them come.
Send for the most skillful wailers and let them come!”
17 “Let them come quickly
and lift up a wailing over us
so our eyes may run down with tears
and our eyelids gush with water.”
18 For a wailing voice is heard from Zion:
“How we are ruined!
We are utterly ashamed—
we have forsaken the land,
for they tore down our dwellings.”
19 Now, hear the word of Adonai, O women,
let your ear receive the word of His mouth.
Teach your daughters wailing
and everyone her neighbor a dirge.
20 For death has climbed through our windows.
It has entered into our palaces
to cut off children from the street
and young men from the squares.”
21 “Say this,” declares Adonai.
“The carcasses of men will lie
like dung on the open field,
like cut grain behind the reaper,
with no one gathering them.”
Boast in Knowing Adonai
22 Thus says Adonai:
“Let not the wise boast in his wisdom
nor the mighty boast in his might
nor the rich glory in his riches.
23 But let one who boasts boast in this:
that he understands and knows Me.
For I am Adonai who exercises lovingkindness,
justice and righteousness on earth.
For in these things I delight.”
It is a declaration of Adonai.
24 “Days are soon coming,” declares Adonai, “when I will punish all who are circumcised and yet uncircumcised— 25 Egypt, Judah, Edom and Ammon’s children and Moab, and all that have cut the corners of their hair—that dwell in the wilderness. For all the nations are uncircumcised but all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart.
Standing Before the Sanhedrin
4 As Peter and John were speaking to the people, the kohanim and the captain of the Temple and the Sadducees came up to them. 2 They were indignant because Peter and John were teaching the people and announcing in Yeshua the resurrection of the dead. 3 So they grabbed them and put them in jail until the next day, for it was already evening. 4 But many who heard the message believed, and the number of the men came to about five thousand.
5 On the next day, the rulers and elders and Torah scholars were gathered together in Jerusalem. 6 Annas the kohen gadol was there, and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all those who were of high-priestly descent. 7 When they had placed Peter and John in their midst, they began to inquire, “By what power or in what name did you do this?”
8 Then Peter, filled with the Ruach ha-Kodesh, said to them, “Rulers and elders of the people! 9 If we are on trial today for a mitzvah done for a sick man, as to how this fellow was healed, 10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Yeshua ha-Mashiach ha-Natzrati—whom you had crucified, whom God raised from the dead—this one stands before you whole. 11 This Yeshua is ‘the stone—rejected by you, the builders—that has become the chief cornerstone.’ [a] 12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved!”
